[edit]From Middle Dutch donresdach, donredach, from Old Dutch *thonaresdag, from Proto-West Germanic *Þunras dag (“day of the thunder god”). Equivalent to Donar or donder + dag.
Donar (North Germanic: Thor) was the Germanic god of thunder.
