Borrowed from Malay dedak (bran), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *dəkdək (pulverize, crush by pounding). Compare Kapampangan darak and Javanese ꦝꦼꦝꦏ꧀ (dhedhak). Doublet of dikdik.
