Etymology
[edit]From Arabic دَمُّوس (dammūs), variant of دَيْمَاس (daymās). Ultimately from Ancient Greek δημόσιον (dēmósion, “public building; treasury; public prison; public bath”), the neuter of δημόσιος (dēmósios, “public”) Compare furthermore Doric Greek δᾱμόσῐος (dāmósios).
