Old Irish

[edit]From Proto-Celtic *kʷani.[1] Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *kʷos, *kʷis. Cognate with Welsh pan (“when”, conjunction), Cornish pan (“when”, conjunction) Breton pa (“when”, conjunction). Compare also Latin quando, Proto-Germanic *hwan (“when”).
