[edit]From Old Irish aidche and aidchi, the oblique forms of adaig (compare Classical Gaelic adhaigh), from earlier *adekʷī or *adekī, of unknown origin; possibly cognate with Latin āter (“dark”) or Sanskrit अन्ध (andha, “blind”).
