From naj (face) +‎ byak, the latter from Proto-Tai *praːkᴰ (forehead). Cognate with Thai ผาก (pàak), Lao ຜາກ (phāk), Shan ၽၢၵ်ႇ (phàak) (as in ၼႃႈၽၢၵ်ႇ (nāa phàak)).
