Borrowed from Russian погро́м (pogróm). First attested in the late 19th century, in more general use since the Russian pogroms of 1905.

  • Both genders have been in use alongside from the beginning. The masculine was once predominant, but in the 21st century the neuter seems to be establishing itself more and more.
