1. (occasionally proscribed) Netherlands, Kingdom of the Netherlands (a country in Western Europe, consisting of four constituent countries: the Netherlands per se, Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten; official name: Królestwo Niderlandów)

The use of Niderlandy as the short form of the country's name is prescribed by the European Union.^[1] This usage, however, is discouraged by the Commission on Standardization of Geographical Names in Poland, which advises using Holandia instead.^[2]
