Etymology

Sino-Vietnamese word from 韓國, from Korean 한국 (Han'guk); see further notes there. In Vietnam, this name was adopted in 1994 by the request of South Korea, whose position is that Triều Tiên (Joseon) is not the preferred term as it is associated with North Korea.[1]
