[edit]From Hungarian Buda, probably borrowed from a Slavic personal name, though an alternative theory deriving the term from Proto-Slavic *voda (“water”) as a translation of Latin Aquincum, via aqua (“water”), is also popular. The folk etymology connecting the word to Bleda, the brother of Attila the Hun, is historically implausible.
