[edit]Minnehapolis proposed in 1852 by Charles Hoag as a (misspelt) blend of Dakota mníȟaȟa (“waterfall”) (mní (“water”) + ȟaȟa (“curling”)) + Ancient Greek πόλις (pólis, “city”). Amended to Minneapolis at a town meeting the same year.
