rust mite (plural rust mites)

  1. A mite of species Aceria anthocoptes (family Eriophyidae), found on Cirsium arvense, (Canada thistle).
  2. A mite which, by puncturing the rind, causes the rust-coloured patches on citrus fruit.
    1. A pink citrus rust mite (Aculops pelekassi)
    2. A citrus rust mite (Phyllocoptruta oleivora).
