- (transitive) to stroke with something (like a brush), applying a layer of some substance; to coat, to brush, to smear, to skim (plaster)
- Väggen beströks med vit limfärg
- The wall was coated with white distemper
- (rare) to stroke more generally
- Han sträckte ut sin hand genom bilrutan och lät den bestrykas av vetet
- He put his hand out through the car window and let it be caressed by the wheat
