Abstract:
The last 40 years have seen a remarkable increase in personal income inequality and a decline in the share of wages in GDP in advanced and emerging economies. Are these unavoidable outcomes in the age of automation or can we design policies to reverse these trends? What role can labour unions play? And what would be the impact of increasing equality on employment and economic growth?
