El papel de los sindicatos en la lucha contra la desigualidad de ingresos (the role of unions in income inequality)

Alexander Guschanski and Ozlem Onaran

No 27444, Greenwich Papers in Political Economy from University of Greenwich, Greenwich Political Economy Research Centre

Abstract: The last 40 years have seen a remarkable increase in personal income inequality and a decline in the share of wages in GDP in advanced and emerging economies. Are these unavoidable outcomes in the age of automation or can we design policies to reverse these trends? What role can labour unions play? And what would be the impact of increasing equality on employment and economic growth?
