Economic Theory and Mathematics — an Appraisal
Paul Samuelson
Ekonomicheskaya Politika / Economic Policy, 2012, 115—126
Abstract:
The article examines the foundations of mathematics use in economic research. The author treats mathematics as a universal language of economic analysis, while cautioning against excessive enthusiasm for mathematical calculations. However, mathematics is not less valuable than a verbal statement of economic ideas.
