Abstract: We assist the proliferation of societies that declare themselves in emergency energy due to the petrol extraction limits and which are starting to turn into a strong rhythm to mitigate, in a first instance, the impacts of the limit. The discovery of the closeness of the energy crisis supposes a qualitative jump, because it’s perceived s a very near and serious threat and that’s why the problem needs to be confronted with urgency and radical actions. They usually start with a vulnerability analysis with the aim of determining the economic and social sectors that will be the most strongly effected and put in practice mitigation policies. Afterwards they define strategies that identify the necessary policies in order to quickly eliminate the dependence of combustible fossils. In general, these policies correspond with the sustainability principles: solar energy, the closing of the material flows, promotion of sustainable transport policies, decentralization and productive self-sufficiency, diversity, cooperation, social cohesion etc.. In spite of the fact that this phenomenon is very complicated, which limits the capacity of evaluating the scope of the undertaken transformations, enough elements exist to be able to conclude that we are up against outstanding experiences. And this is why they are constituted regarding the great importance for the rest of societies in the threshold of a long period of economic and social crisis caused by the running out of petrol.
