Introducing Neu icons 🎉

Hello everyone, welcome to the first blog announcement of Neu icons. Here I will tell you anything about Neu icons product. From the features — until the next update I will provide later. So, let’s get started.

What is Neu Icons?

Neu is a free crisp cohesive growing icon set library that provides wide range categories. Based on 24px grid material. It brings the powerful look amongst your project. Created with a simple basic object, combine it with other shapes, and finish it with passion. 1035 icons, 28 categories and growing in total.

Features

There are plenty of core-features from Neu icons I will explain below.

SVG

They said with the power of SVG you can conquer the whole world, alone. Why it can be like that? Don't overconfident you damn writer. Here is why.

First, you can scale it as large as you want. Second is, you don't lose the quality. Third, the size of the SVG is way smaller than other formats. Four, it's CSS friendly, go crazy yourself. And five, it can be opened on any vector-based software.
In conclusion, SVG is a beast, try yourself here.

Web font

Web font is a CSS feature that allows you to specify font files to be downloaded along with your website as it is accessed, meaning that any browser that supports web font can have exactly the fonts you specify available to it. Mozilla Developer.

By using the Neu icons web font, you can call any icon in your website project. By installing the web font or call it using the CDN on your website project. It will make your website lighter and you can do styling exactly like do it with the usual font.

Call it using the <i> class and add the-icon-name after. For example, take a look at the template below.

<i class="neu-activity"></i>

It will be called the "activity" icon from the Neu icon set. Change the "activity" with something else that available on the directory. And you will get another result.

For the full documentation, check the Neu icons repository on Github.

Request icons

That's right, you read that correctly. If you don't find any icon that matches your need. You can use this form to request one or two or a bunch of it.

Or, if you want to create it yourself and want other people to use it as well together with the other stuff at Neu icons. Feel free to contribute it to the repository. I will create a guide "How to" about it later.

Neu icons is an open-source project. You, your friends, your colleague, my neighbour and even my grandma can contribute to it.

What's next?

It will be a long journey to get the Neu icons to become a polished good boy that everyone needs it. But, along the way, I will enjoy the process of growing this project. Besides that, it will be another long way for me to learn new things. Here is some of the future update I have in my mind.

  • Glyph/Solid/Fill style you name it.
  • Added more icons
  • Figma icon library
  • Fix the documentation each day to maintain the easiest way to use for a developer or non-developer users.
  • Creating guide style "How to" create the Neu icons to the open-source community.

Conclusion

Neu icons is my first icon open-source project that everything is done by myself, from the phase creating the icon—until how to publish it to the community. But it sounds so selfish. Because many people already taught me how to do it. I've learned a lot from them. From the how to upload it as NPM package—until how to maintain the stuff to get better each time.

Shout out to people who helped me about this project, Raizal I.N. Pregnanta Victor Manu Yahya Fadhlulloh Al-Fatih.

Anyway, enjoy the Neu icons, if you have any feedback about it. Feel free to reach me here. Thank you, have a nice day ☀️✌️
