Becoming Modern-Day Good Samaritans

What is Step Up Pepperdine?

Step Up Pepperdine is a bystander intervention program and university-wide initiative that educates members of the Pepperdine community to be proactive in helping each other.

How can you Step Up and help your friend?

There are several options, depending on the situation.

  1. Share your concerns directly with your friend
  2. Refer your friend to the Counseling Center
    • Stop by TCC 270 or call the Counseling Center at (310) 506-4210
  3. Let someone else know
    • Call the Dean of Students at (310) 506-4472
    • Notify your Resident Advisor
  4. Use the LiveSafe Phone App
    • Download for free from the App Store or Google Play and click "report tips"
  5. If there are safety concerns, let DPS know by calling (310) 506-4441.
    • In case of emergencies, call 911.

Letter from the University President

At Pepperdine, we care about each other. We are a dynamic community of students, faculty, staff, and parents dedicated to purpose, service, and leadership, and we aspire to support each other in all ways. Still, we are not immune to trouble—life happens and issues arise. We may know someone within our community with any number of personal concerns that can feel overwhelming if not addressed with caring and compassionate help. For these reasons, I wholeheartedly encourage each and every one of you to familiarize yourselves with our Step Up! campaign and the many proactive services it offers to help you help others. Through training opportunities with the Counseling Center and the LiveSafe app that will improve communication between our University community and Public Safety, friends can help friends. Most problems happen with other people around. If you have a concern about yourself or another Pepperdine family member, please do something—Step Up!
