Hello, I just wanted to let you know that I reverted your upload to this file. The image you uploaded was not exactly the same portrait as "Brian M. Simpler.jpg". Note how the General is smiling in your version of the portrait. Please consider uploading that image as a new file. De728631 (talk) 19:13, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Seal of the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration, 50th Anniversary.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Criterion 4 rename requests
[edit]I notice you've requested the renaming of a bunch of files under criterion 4. Some of these were files that you uploaded, and I've made those moves under criterion 1 (original uploader request). I don't think you've adequately explained the rest though, and I'd prefer not to decline so many requests without giving you a chance to do so. COM:FR lists only two cases where criterion 4 applies, the first being where external tools (complex templates or Wikisource) rely on consistent filenames, and the second being where the files are parts of a larger whole and hence should be sorted together in lists and categories. I can't see how either of those applies here. Can you explain? --bjh21 (talk) 22:33, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
- I figured that renaming so many files at once would spark notice. Which ones specifically are causing problems? SuperWIKI (talk) 22:37, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
- All the ones still in Category:Media requiring renaming - rationale 4. --bjh21 (talk) 23:06, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
- Most of them qualify for Criterion 4 in my opinion as intended from what I saw in the reasoningː to realign them so only one part of each name differs. However, I also considered multiple criteria which, to my admission, I did not properly explain. Some of these portraits have "(Subject's name) (Name of Command)" titles in them such as "Robinson NORTHCOM" or "Hyten VCJCS", which Criterion 2 also applies for, as they do are ambiguous; "Robinson" or "Hyten" does not necessarily refer to the General Lori Robinson or General John E. Hyten. These Criterion 2 renames would subsequently, due to differences in name, cause name alignment issues by retroactively misaligning other portraits of them as a military officers. So, the overall Criterion 4 reasoning was to make all the portrait file names were uniform in the end.
- All the ones still in Category:Media requiring renaming - rationale 4. --bjh21 (talk) 23:06, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
- Due to archive.org providing many earlier portraits of the aforementioned four-star generals (yes, they are PD-US-Mil-Air Force), new uploads from there (which I will do in future) would likely mess up alignment with general's portraits uploaded in the 2000s and early 2010s, so the same is said for the Kevin P. Chilton image taken in 2007. If this does not meet requirements by your assessment, I will abide by it. Thank you. SuperWIKI (talk) 01:11, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
- Criterion 4 isn't just "To harmonize the names of a set of images so that only one part of all names differs." The footnote is part of the criterion and specifies only two cases where it applies. I don't think you've made out a case for either of them here. The criterion 2 argument is stronger, and while I'm inclined to say that it doesn't apply I'd prefer to leave the question to another filemover (and not just because it's far too late and I should be asleep). So I shall decline the requests where there's no plausible criterion 2 argument and allow you to update the others to make whatever argument you want to those filemovers who are still awake. --bjh21 (talk) 02:23, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

Autopatrol given
[edit]Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. GPSLeo (talk) 18:00, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

emblems
[edit]hi, do you also need or use historic emblems? for example NAVAL RESERVE --Mrmw (talk) 09:02, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- is there an emblem at commons for NAVAL RESERVE? could only find NAVY RESERVE:
- Seal of the United States Navy Reserve.svg --Mrmw (talk) 09:04, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- sorry - found it: United States NR Seal.svg --Mrmw (talk) 09:20, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- With respect, I don't fully understand the context of your question. Any SVG emblems I requested are to be used on Wikipedia lists of 4-star, 3-star, and 2-star officers of the U.S. Armed Forces. This, in addition to the main Wikipedia subject articles. These position insignias often look ugly in dark mode (as 3D-style PNGs or JPGs with backgrounds). I have a compiled list of emblems that need SVG versions. As for historical emblems, like that of the Naval Reserve (as named from 1915–2005), you're free to make them, but they aren't the focus of my Illustration workshop requests as I don't want to overwhelm the graphists.
- P.S. I see that you've found an SVG Naval Reserve emblem. Best of luckǃ SuperWIKI (talk) 09:23, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- in your list Commander Atlantic Area Crest.png is missing, you already asked for, didn't you? --Mrmw (talk) 09:41, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Correct. The request was only completed for 3/4 of the emblems. SuperWIKI (talk) 09:43, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- in your list Commander Atlantic Area Crest.png is missing, you already asked for, didn't you? --Mrmw (talk) 09:41, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- hi, i can provide a svg-version for Office of the Secretary of the Air Force seal.jpg - but its inner parts (eagle and shield) is bad quality as is in jpg-file - i can use this parts from Mark of the United States Air Force.svg
- what do you think? --Mrmw (talk) 11:49, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- If they're almost identical, I see no issue in copying it over. SuperWIKI (talk) 12:01, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
also uploaded Seal of the United States Coast Guard Reserve.svg for Seal of the United States Coast Guard Reserve.png --Mrmw (talk) 12:48, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks! SuperWIKI (talk) 13:01, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
i also created a svg-version for Military service mark of the United States Air Force.png
but for this_filname.svg there is a redirection to another svg-file, which doesnt match exactly with this file - what should we do? --Mrmw (talk) 13:23, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Unsure, and I say this with deep thanks for your work, if that's necessary. The current Mark of the United States Air Force SVG is sufficient and matches closely enough with the USAF's official guidelines. SuperWIKI (talk) 13:27, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- finally i was able to upload a file to the redirect-page: Military service mark of the United States Air Force.svg
- pleas compare to Mark of the United States Air Force.svg
- they are similar but not identical, i wonder what is the difference or which one is the correct one? --Mrmw (talk) 15:16, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- also uploaded Joint Staff badge.svg --Mrmw (talk) 18:55, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- also uploaded US Marine Corps Reserve badge.svg --Mrmw (talk) 19:34, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
