User talk:Nicolas Ray~commonswiki
Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

Image Tagging Image:Geneva298.JPG
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Geneva298.JPG. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Caution
[edit]Hello Nicolas, when copying other users' images, please always give correct and full information. See here what has to be corrected. In addition, please never state yourself being the author of a file, when you in fact are not! Also, please don't use {{PD-self}} if you are not the author!
Another example is [1]. And this was a case where you gave completely wrong information. I spent already over an hour now to correct your mistakes. Please stop uploading images that you haven't made yourself. It really seems you do not know what you are doing. Sorry to state this.
Thanks --Überraschungsbilder 16:26, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
- Well... Not sure that what you are stating is matching what some of your collegues are doing... But in case, I'll send them to you ! (and by the way, I'm really sorry : I just wanted to help but I promise, I'll never never to it anymore !) Nicolas Ray 07:40, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- By the way, just an advice : instead of spending over an hour, just stop, find this page, tell me what the mistake is and be sure I'll correct it... Nicolas Ray 07:44, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- Well … in case of wrong licensing or wrong information on authorship (these were the main issues here) it makes not much sense to wait until a user will come back to fix such mistakes by himself (maybe tomorrow, maybe next week, maybe even later? how should one know?). You probably know that very well, I assume. I'm used to correct such things directly at first view. And this is the usual way things work here on Commons (it's the same as on Wikipedia, where one wouldn't ask someone else to fix his typos or so, if one can do this too). Anyway, please have a look at this page's history. I already wrote the first message to you more than 2 hours before starting to grumble a bit. So there's no reason to tell me to "just stop, find this page". --Überraschungsbilder 11:43, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- Anyway, your latest uploads are ok :-) Glad you have found it out by yourself! Ok, I was bold again, but I only corrected the given date (the date field is for the date when an image was taken, not for the date it was uploaded first) and I put the German description in place [2]. Thanks --Überraschungsbilder 11:43, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- Salut Nicolas. N'hésite pas à me contacter si tu as des questions. guillom 11:55, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hey, this tool sounds good.. I'll try, see and let you know my comments... Nicolas Ray 14:14, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
I've moved all 20 images to the correct name Category:Röschenz now. If you can't type in umlauts, then use copy&paste please or ask others to help you with creation. But don't use wrong names instead. --Überraschungsbilder 15:37, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
- ... Gosh. I was absolutly convinced that all over the world (except on German-speaking places), the o-umlaut was translated by oe... But if you say so... I probably misunderstood... Nicolas Ray 07:42, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- Heh, Röschenz is in fact the correct name, and this is used in all language versions of Wikipedia as the page title (even on fr.wikipedia, where you could also use Reschenez). Why should Commons be different? Or should we completely leave out French l'accent circonflexe here, too? ;-) --Überraschungsbilder 11:43, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Renaming
[edit]Dear uploader,
Thanks very much for having uploaded this picture.
Unhappily the name you have given to the file : Image:Aster Jura.jpg is unvalid according to Commons rules because identification is wrong. So this name must be removed.
Suggestion is to change it into Image:Colchicum autumnale in Jura.jpg, which includes identification of the species in the picture.
If you have better suggestions, you may address them on my talk page in the course of 2 days from now.
If no response, the above suggestion will be confirmed.
Greetings.
File source is not properly indicated: File:Garelli 350 cc dubbelzuiger 1919 jpg.JPG
[edit]This media was probably deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Garelli 350 cc dubbelzuiger 1919 jpg.JPG, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (
[[:File:Garelli 350 cc dubbelzuiger 1919 jpg.JPG]] ).
If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Nicolas Ray. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Nicolas Ray~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
