Hello, AngMoKio!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Thanks for your note. Don't see why my post shouldn't be acceptable. To use "as user" is very common and to mention that it is a typical picture of certain user also can't be problematic. So imho no action needed. --AngMoKio (talk) 08:42, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
annoyed with you commenting on me postprocessing my images. please comment on images only--Mbz1 (talk) 11:21, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
How can I make a difference btw the post-processing and the image?! You post-process the image thus I comment on post-processing and the image. --AngMoKio (talk) 12:22, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No you comment not on the image. you comment on me. please stop doing that.--Mbz1 (talk) 12:33, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I just have a problem that you always spoil and unfortunately also fake your pics. This is sth that shouldnt be in an archive which is mostly meant to serve educational purposes. And when you put every photo of yours on FPC you have to face and handle the comments you get. --AngMoKio (talk) 12:38, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
How in the world do you know how many pictures I take to tell me that I put every one of them to FPC? Just stop commenting on me. Better look at yourself.I would have never nominated two images of the same bird taken in the same Zoo few minutes appart.--Mbz1 (talk) 13:22, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You never give an answer to my main point, your faking of photos. You just always come up with those 2 birds which never have anything to do with the topic discussed - at least those photos are not faked at all. It also doesn't matter if you really nominate every photo. The topic is your faking of pics. And it also can't be that you tell me that I shouldn't comment on your pics just because I oppose some (as you know not all). That is not the way a wiki works and you should know that. --AngMoKio (talk) 13:52, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The image was not "faking". The image was retouched. The retouched template was added to the image as soon as it was uploaded. Retouched template specified that manual cloning was done. My other images that you had problems with were not even retouched. They were postprocessed to ajust brightess and contrast. It is your right to like or dislike them, but stop telling me they were faking. I responded your other unfair acusations at the image's nomination page. You said that I put every photo of mine to FPC. I responded. Now you say it does not matter. Are you sure you know what are you talking about? IMO it might be a good idea to clearly explain that ZOO images were taken not in a wild, but in ZOO, just for educational purposes, you know. And I still see no ZOO info in your no, not two, one (the same) bird's description. I did not tell you should not comment on my pics. I told you to stop commenting on me. Any more questions?--Mbz1 (talk) 14:08, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I won't discuss the topic of faking with you. You know very well how much you change your pictures. I added the info about where I made the pics to the pics where it was missing - now they are much more educative. --AngMoKio (talk) 14:39, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, photography is not math and not physic, it is not a precise science. Photography is an art. One could post-process the images as one likes. An image could be "faked" with no post processing at all, but simply by playing with exposure time for example. A long exposure of the waves make them look as fog, and according to your theory educational purpose of such images are lost because people, who now nothing about photography, and even those, who do, might be mislead bu such an appearance of the water. Even I was mislead, when I looked at File:Clifton Beach 5.jpg. It was of course before I started taking a long shot exposures of the waves myself :) Thanks for adding ZOO info to your images. It reminded me to add one for my old one too. So, sometimes I should look at myself rather than critique others :)--Mbz1 (talk) 16:50, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you about the different ways to influence the appearance of a photo. Still I think that the aim should be that the scene on the photo looks more or less as the circumstances were on that day (unless you don't declare your picture a work of art). It is not that I don't like your pics in general - not at all. Many of your pics I would hang on my wall because they are quite artistic (I think i even said that to one of your pics i opposed). And many of them are much more interesting than most other pics here...i just think that you should reduce your post-processing to 'keep them real'. Most of your pics don't need post-processing at all and only get spoiled by it (and i am not talking about sharpening or fixing the white balance, this is of course "allowed"). Furthermore I want to emphasize again that I have no interest in fighting with you and it was never my intention to attack you as a person. --AngMoKio (talk) 17:02, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We have an interestig discussion here, don't we. I woild like to make one more point please. Here's an image of mine that probably is considered by you as another of my "faked" pictures: File:Orange Spring Mound at Mammoth Hot Springs.jpg, and is good only to hung at the wall. Some time ago I got an email from Ph.D. geologist, who works at department of Environmental Sciences of The University of Montana Western, and who visited Yellowsotne many, many, many times. He asked my permission to use "faked" image in the scintific book about Yellowstone geology. So not only to hung at a wall :) Anyway... I know sometimes I could be too harsh in my responses on critique, and I know it is not good. Just please do not get upset with me because of that. You know me quite well by now don't you :)--Mbz1 (talk) 17:37, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah i guess the example photo you mentioned is such a photo that i would maybe hang on my wall but wouldnt be so sure if this is how it actually looked in real. Well lets leave it at that for now. I know you quite well by now and well....commons wouldn't be the same without you :) You know today I read a news about wikipedia on a big german news page. They wrote that the number of active users, who actually write articles get fewer and fewer bcs of all those constant fights about small details in articles. Many good writers just get sick of those fights and leave wikipedia. We should try to do it better... :) --AngMoKio (talk) 20:33, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Exposure time 1/50 sec (0.02) and reflection is still blurry

[edit]

File:A pond with reflection in Golden Gate Park 3.jpg--Mbz1 (talk) 21:09, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It might be that this is blurry. All i want to say is that a reflection on the water is in general not blurry and that depending on the movement of the water you need a certain shutter speed to get it sharp. --AngMoKio (talk) 08:27, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Question concerning personality rights

[edit]

hello, i didn't ask anything to the sikh pilgrim, he didn't even know his photo was taken...how do i sort all this out? what sort of permission should i add in the description page? i guess there's gonna be the same issue with that one. thanks for your help. by the way, paulrudd is the only pseudo i could think of when i signed up on commons, my name is alexis.--Paulrudd (talk) 14:33, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats on the AWESOME shot (File:DTM Mercedes W204 DiResta09 amk.jpg) being today's featured picture! I'm always looking to improve - some day I'll get my own featured picture. In June 2009 I purchased a camera capable of taking a high quality shot (a Canon ESO Rebel XS) and I'm buying a longer distance lens soon. What I really want to do know is: Besides cropping, do you enhance photographs before uploading? For example, what would you do to prepare this image? Royalbroil 13:54, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, thanks a lot on the nice comments on my pic. You can see more of those pics in the cars section on my userpage The lense you are going to buy is actually the same lense i used for this shot of the DTM car. I am really happy with it as it has a IS-mode especially for panning shots. In general I don't enhance much on my pics. I mostly use the raw format of my Canon 40D and enhance it a bit in the raw converter (mostly crop and white balance). The important thing about panning shots is that you have to use a slow shutter speed. For this shot here i used a shutter speed of 1/80s. It takes some time until you know how to handle the camera for a good panning shot at 1/80s. But once you got it, it is a lot of fun. --AngMoKio (talk) 19:50, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. My thinking behind the removal of your recent comment was that once a discussion has been closed, no further comments should be added to that discussion. This is because I feel that the page should serve as an archive showing what comments were taken into account by whoever closed the discussion. If comments are added after, they won't have been taken into account and this might not be immediately obvious to someone looking at the discussion. The other reason is that these pages exist to serve a specific purpose, in this case to nominate an image to be a featured picture, and so once that nomination has been closed, the page shouldn't continue to serve as a venue for discussion related topics for the reason I mentioned earlier. I hope you can appreciate my thinking in deciding to remove your comments. I remain of the opinion that it was appropriate. Regards. Adambro (talk) 12:11, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I don't share your point of view. I didn't add a vote, just a comment which is my opinion not a problem. I don't know of any rule says that you shouldn't add a comment to a closed nomination. Anyway I also think it is not a big problem. --AngMoKio (talk) 12:21, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi AngMoKio, I second Adambro here. If a nomination or some other thread is closed, we like to keep it closed for the reasons Adambro stated. It is always possible to add a comment afterwards on the talk page or, even better, to continue a discussion on a talk page or elsewhere. The last thing we want is an ongoing political discussion at this closed FP nomination. Could you please consider to remove your comment at that page? Thanks and regards, AFBorchert (talk) 12:29, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok guys. I removed it. --AngMoKio (talk) 12:52, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not to respond, but just to think about

[edit]

First of all I would like to thank you for the comments you made, both comments, the one that stayed and the one you deleted. They both were good faith comments. I would like you to believe me that more than many people here I understand the plight of Palestinian people. I never said, and never even thought about saying that all Palestinians are terrorists. Of course they are not. I am hurting for every innocent Palestinian, who is killed in that conflict as much as I am hurting for every innocent Jew, yet I cannot agree that the war is about religion. With your permission I will make only two points (I could make many more, but I will not). So here's my first point: Have you ever thought why from 1948 to 1967, when West Bank was in Jordan and Gaza was in Egypt, nobody ever talked about creating Palestinian state? Why instead of building infrastructures and creating jobs Palestinians were kept in refugee camps? Here's my second point: Israel is not only Jews. There are at least 20% of fast growing poppulation of Palestinian Arabs, who are citizens of Israel. Terrorist do not distingnish between Jews and Arabs, when they comit their attacks. Few years ago there was attack on restourant in Haifa, which was owned by Palestinians. There were Jews and Palestinians, who got killed in that attack. They had different religions, some of them were atteists, but they all were Israelis. In the end I would like to add that if I could have sacrifized my own life for the peace in Midlle East, for both Jews and Arabs alike, I would have done with no second thought. As I said in the beginning that messageis posted not get your respons, but just as something to think about. Best wishes.--Mbz1 (talk) 13:49, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First of all: My comments were obviously of good faith - I didn't take sides for anyone. I can't resist to respond a bit more :-) Let me ask you a question in return: Why do you think the state of Israel is where it is today?
I agree the conflict has also to do with wrong politics of the British colonists - so it is not only religious but to a big part imho.
I agree with you that terrorists accept that their attacks also kill people of their own religion - but who can understand the sick mind of a terrorist? --AngMoKio (talk) 16:43, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot respond your question in few words, and I am not sure Commons is the right place for such discussions. Please do email me, and I will be glad to answer all your
questions, but, if you wish me to admit that Israel was created where it is now because of Jewish faith I'll partly agree with you.
It is easy to understand. Do you know how many times Jerusalem is mentioned in Qur'an? Zero. Do you know how many times Jerusalem is mentioned in Torah? More than 600!
Besides after Jews left the place and diaspora began, there never was another state before Israel was declared. It was almost as the land has waited for Her people to come back.
I cannot agree with your wording "terrorists accept that their attacks also kill people of their own religion " They do not accept it. They do it in purpose.
Few days ago they bombed a school for boys in Iraq, few weeks ago they bombed a mosque in Pakistan and so on, and so on.
Here's the definition of religious war: "A religious war is a war caused by religious differences. It can involve one state with an established religion against another state with a different religion or
a different sect within the same religion, or a religiously motivated group attempting to spread its faith by violence, or to suppress another group because of its religious beliefs or practices".
I assure you Israelis do not want to spread their religion to anybody else or suppress another group. If for nothing else Israel simply is not up to that task. Have you looked at the map lately :)
Of course hamas is a different story. Do you know that after Israelis left Bethlehem almost 70% Palestinian Christians left the place of the birth of Jesus in few years. Why?
This might provide some explanations
The wars are very cruel affairs, but while hamas and other terrorist groups try to kill as many civilians as possible (hamas does not even care about their own people.
they launch rockets from schools and mosques) Israel does everything that is possible, and more than any other country has ever done, to avoid civilian casualties on the other
side.
IMO it might be not such a good idea not to take sides. Forget about Middle East for a moment, and look at Europe. Look closely and you will see many differences for the
worst that have nothing to do with Israel and/or Jews, but do have to do with terrorism and religious extremism.
I would like to finish with quote by Golda Meir: "Peace will come when the Arabs will love their children more than they hate us"
Thanks.--Mbz1 (talk) 04:27, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am new to this discussion and editing functions. Hopeful to do it properly.

It is planned to use this photo permanently - for years - on http://aha7.com based on the Creative Commons Licence. On aha7.com usually the name of the author - if known - is specified, also his Website when known.

I do not have a user account in wikimedia.org. Could you please be so kind to send a message to ok @ aha7.com ? In the meantime there is a preliminary insertion of this photo under construction, so I could communicate its location by email for your control and agreement.

Educational use of picture of bronze statue

[edit]

I am making flash cards for my county (about 12 2nd grade teachers) and found your picture [File:BuddhisticStatuesHKe1.jpg] . I have had trouble finding something for "bronze" for our Word Wall pictures for our SOL on China. I would like permission to use this on the Word wall. The size would be about 2"x2" on the cards. Thank you for considering my request. kneylan@glnd.k12.va.us

Profile size and activity criterion for Commons:Meet our photographers

[edit]

Dear member of Commons:Meet our photographers,

Two issues have recently been raised at Commons talk:Meet our photographers:

Profile size creep
The page is becoming increasing cluttered due to a tendency among some members to make personal profiles, which are unreasonably large. You are kindly requested to consider the size used by your profile and consider if it has a reasonable size. Note that the same message is being send to all members, so it is up to you to use your own good judgement in this. We are not interesting in setting up exact quantitatve rules. It should be a matter of common sense.
Activity criterion
It has been suggested to introduce an activity criterion in addition to the minimum 10 FPs criterion to be included on the list. You are kindly requested to voice your opinion on this proposal.

Espada

[edit]

Danke! --olenz (talk) 11:51, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
