Deutsch: Um eine Tiefburg entwickelte sich der erstmals 1254 genannte Ort zu einem befestigten Dorf. Burg und Dorf gelangten 1288 in den Besitz der Grafen von Lichtenberg, die später von den Grafen von Hanau beerbt wurden. Willstätt war bis ins 18. Jahrhundert Sitz eines hanau-lichtenbergischen Amts, dem auch die zwischen 1971 und 1975 eingemeindeten Orte Eckartsweier, Hesselhurst, Legelshurst und Sand angehört hatten. Das Wappen wurde 1901 vom Generallandesarchiv nach dem Gemeindesiegel des ausgehenden 14. Jahrhunderts gestaltet, dessen ältester Abdruck an einer Urkunde von 1444 erhalten ist. Der Schwanenrumpf stammt aus der Helmzier des Lichtenberger Wappens. Die schon im ersten Siegel vorhandene Verzierung der freien Schildfläche (Damaszierung) wurde 1901 beibehalten. Am 22. November 1984 verlieh das Landratsamt Ortenaukreis das Recht zur Führung einer Flagge in den erwähnten Farben. |
