Abstract:
This article is about multiproduct companies in declining sectors. It shows that if such companies operate with independent technology (like the reference model), their product specialization is balanced, whereas if, on the other hand, their technology is characterized by short-term economic requirements, their specialization in production lines can only be maintained through exclusiva deals. The conditions in which a more concentrated market structure is desirable are also analyzed from the point of view of social welfare.
