At UPM, excellence is a standard. Students must achieve a Band 5 on the IELTS test or an equivalent score to successfully complete the Preparatory Year. Those who don't meet this benchmark are provided with opportunities to enhance their English proficiency through tailored modules until they achieve success. A minimum grade of 'good' (C) in English and mathematics courses is mandatory, ensuring a strong foundation for future academic pursuits. Our Preparatory-Year Program is designed to equip students with the language skills necessary for a seamless transition into their chosen majors.
We recognize and reward proficiency. Students achieving a required score in internationally recognized tests such as IELTS (5), TOEFL (500), or the Michigan Testing System are exempted from studying English in the Preparatory Year. Additionally, the university acknowledges other accredited standardized international tests, offering diverse pathways for students to demonstrate their language proficiency.
