International Students
Studying in Germany takes preparation: How do I finance myself? How good does my German have to be? Where do I apply? How do I get to know other students? Here, we have compiled the most important things you need to know.
Warning of call center scam!
The Munich police are warning of fraudulent activities that are currently targeting Asian students, especially Chinese citizens.
Initial contact is usually made by telephone or messenger services (e.g. WeChat, Weibo, QQ, BBM). The perpetrators, who speak Chinese or another Asian language, claim to be government officials or police officers involved in criminal proceedings or issuing arrest warrants related to the student. They threaten to execute the arrest warrant and revoke visas or scholarships.
The police advise the following course of action if you receive unknown calls from abroad:
- Do not allow scammers to pressure you.
- Hang up.
- Never transfer money to an unfamiliar account.
- When in doubt, contact the police at the emergency number 110.
You can find further information in this info sheet from the Munich police.
