William Amhurst Tyssen-Amherst, 1st Baron Amherst of Hackney1

     William Amhurst Tyssen-Amherst, 1st Baron Amherst of Hackney was born on 25 April 1835.1 He was the son of William George Daniel-Tyssen and Mary Fountaine.1 He was baptised on 26 April 1835 at Narford Hall, Norfolk, EnglandG.2 He married Margaret Susan Mitford, daughter of Admiral Robert Mitford and Margaret Dunsmore, on 4 June 1856 at Hunmanby, Yorkshire, EnglandG.1,3 He died on 16 January 1909 at age 73 at Queen's Gate Gardens, London, EnglandG, suddenly.1,3 He was buried on 20 January 1909 at Didlington Hall, Norfolk, EnglandG.3 His will was proven (by probate) in February 1909, at £67,457 gross, but only £341 net.3
     He was given the name of William Amhurst Daniel-Tyssen at birth.1 He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 On 6 August 1852 his name was legally changed to William Amhurst Tyssen-Amhurst by Royal Licence.1 He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in May 1853.1,3 He held the office of High Sheriff of Norfolk in 1866.1 On 16 August 1877 William Amhurst Tyssen-Amherst, 1st Baron Amherst of Hackney title's name changed to William Amhurst Tyssen-Amherst by Royal Licence.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for West Norfolk between 1880 and 1885.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for South-West Norfolk between 1885 and 1892.1 He was created 1st Baron Amherst of Hackney, co. London [U.K.] on 26 August 1892.1 He wrote the book History of Union Lodge, Norwich, published 1898, with Harmon Lestrange.4 He was appointed Knight of Justice, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.J.St.J.)1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Norfolk.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Middlesex.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Middlesex.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Westminster.1 He wrote the book The discovery of the Solomon Islands, by Alvaro de Mendaña, published 1901, translated from the original Spanish, along with Basil Home Thomson (ASIN: B00ASZ7MHG.)4
     Gibbs states that "for the greater part of his life he had been a collector of rare books, MSS., Egyptian antiquaries, and works of art, but owing to the rascality of his solicitor, who stole an immense quantity of his money, he was forced shortly before his death to sell his choisest treasures."3 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.4

     Elizabeth Clare Hughes is the daughter of Charles Michael Hughes.1 She married Lieutenant John Strongbow Amherst Cecil, son of Lt. Hon. Henry Kerr Auchmuty Cecil and Elizabeth Rohays Mary Burnett, on 18 January 1966.1
     From 18 January 1966, her married name became Cecil.1
