     Hugh de Courtenay, 4th Earl of Devon was born in 1389.1 He was the son of Edward de Courtenay, 3rd Earl of Devon and Maud de Camoys.1 He married Anne Talbot, daughter of Richard Talbot, 4th Lord Talbot and Ankaret Lestrange, Baroness Strange (of Blackmere).2 He died on 16 June 1422.1
     He was appointed Knight on 13 October 1399.2 He was Captain of the a fleet to guard the sea between March 1418 and August 1418.2 He held the office of Lieutenant of the King at sea between April 1419 and November 1419.2 He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Devon [E., 1335] on 5 December 1419.2 He succeeded as the 5th Lord Courtenay [E., 1299] on 5 December 1419.2
