John Wontner1

     John Wontner was born on 27 February 1784 at 115 The Minories, London, EnglandG.1 He was the son of John Wontner and Ann Wheeler.1 He married Mary Hoff, daughter of William Hoff and Mary Wilson, on 24 August 1808 at St. James Church, Spilsby, Lincolnshire, EnglandG.2 He died on 7 November 1833 at age 49 at 115 The Minories, London, EnglandG.1 He was buried at Bunhill FieldsG.1
     He was an apprentice clockmaker in 1798.1 In 1802 at The Minories, London, EnglandG, he succeeded to his father's business.1 He became a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in 1807.1 He became a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in 1810.1 He was Upper Marshall of City of London in 1816.1 He was Governor of Newgate Prison in 1822, where he won great renown, and subsequently became Marshall of His Majesty's Gaols.1

     Mary Hoff was born on 30 December 1784 at Spilsby, Lincolnshire, EnglandG.1 She was the daughter of William Hoff and Mary Wilson.1 She married John Wontner, son of John Wontner and Ann Wheeler, on 24 August 1808 at St. James Church, Spilsby, Lincolnshire, EnglandG.2 She died on 2 November 1862 at age 77 at North Brixton, Surrey, EnglandG.1
     From 24 August 1808, her married name became Wontner.1

     Thomas Wontner was born on 27 February 1813 at Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey, EnglandG.1 He was the son of John Wontner and Mary Hoff.1 He married Cloelia Giulietta Coward, daughter of William Blanchard Coward and Mary Smith, on 6 September 1838 at St. John the Baptist, Shoreditch, London, EnglandG.1 He died on 19 December 1873 at age 60 at Thames Ditton, Surrey, EnglandG.1
     He was a practising Solicitor in 1833.1 He began his practise in London before 1840 in criminal law as a result of his father's connections as Governor of Newgate Prison. Founded the firm of Wontner & Sons, who were, for more than sixty years, solicitors to the Metroplitan Police, the Home Office and the Treasury.1

     William Hoff Wontner was born on 15 July 1814 at Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey, EnglandG.1 He was the son of John Wontner and Mary Hoff.1 He married Catherine Smith, daughter of Joseph Purrier Smith, on 28 December 1854 at St. Matthew's, Denmark Hill, London, EnglandG.1 He died on 2 February 1881 at age 66 at Brixton, Surrey, EnglandG.1 He was buried at Norwood Cemetery, Surrey, EnglandG.1
     He was an architect.1

     Cloelia Giulietta Coward was born circa 1815 at Genoa, ItalyG.1 She was the daughter of William Blanchard Coward and Mary Smith.1 She married Thomas Wontner, son of John Wontner and Mary Hoff, on 6 September 1838 at St. John the Baptist, Shoreditch, London, EnglandG.1 She died in 1870.1
     From 6 September 1838, her married name became Wontner.1
