Hello, I'm Bovlb. One or more of your recent contributions to Q113679106 seemed to be a test and have been removed. Feel free to use the sandbox for test edits. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks!  Bovlb (talk) 13:47, 2 September 2022 (UTC) --Bovlb (talk) 13:47, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for contributing to Wikidata. I see that you recently created an item Q113678257 that does not clearly indicate its notability. The Wikidata project only accepts items that meet its notability criteria, and your item is therefore likely to be deleted soon. In brief, items must have an associated Wikipedia article, must be needed for statements on another notable item, or must have both identifiers and serious sources. For the last case, a good indication of notability would be multiple articles about the subject in independent publications like newspapers or magazines. You can add such sources as references to specific claims using reference URL (P854), or as top-level claims using described at URL (P973).

Also, this may not apply in this specific case, but you should know that we discourage editors from contributing on topics with which they have a strong personal connection, as this may present a conflict of interest. If you are being paid to edit here, then you are obliged to disclose this. For a longer version, you might find it useful to read the essay "How to create an item on Wikidata so that it won't get deleted".  Bovlb (talk) 13:48, 2 September 2022 (UTC) --Bovlb (talk) 13:48, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your message. I'm quite new with Wikidata. Actually this person is one of the most prominent imam in Burkina Faso. I'm a historian working on Islam and Muslim in West Africa. I'm currently working on a digital database of newspaper articles on islam in Burkina Faso with Omeka S: https://islam.domains.uflib.ufl.edu/s/bf/page/home. I wanted to implement linked Open data with Wikidata. Could I add a link to the authority file of this person in my database in the wikidata item? Thank you for your help! Fmadore007 (talk) 17:35, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for following up. I'm not arguing that this person is not prominent or notable in the common sense. I'm pointing out that you have failed to demonstrate their notability using the peculiar definition we use here at Wikidata. Have you considered writing a Wikipedia article about them in some relevant language? Can you find identifiers and sources/references that describe them? Have they founded any organizations or written any documents that we might already have items for? Bovlb (talk) 02:05, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that help. Fmadore007 (talk) 20:07, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New family names and given names

[edit]

Hi Fmadore007!

It's nice of you to create new names. Please be so kind and fill in at least these three properties, it will save the other Wikidata contributors a lot of work:

  • For names in Latin script:
  1. instance of (P31) (use "family name (Q101352)", "male given name (Q12308941)" or "female given name (Q11879590)")
  2. writing system (P282) (use "Latin script (Q8229)")
  3. native label (P1705) (use allways "mul" for the language specification; specific language specifications require a reference)

Tip: The easiest way would be to use the script from User:Bargioni, see: User:Bargioni/QuickNames

Note: Arabic, Chinese, Greek, Japanese, Korean, Russian names, etc. must be created in their original script. User:Bargioni's tool is not suitable for this.

  1. instance of (P31) (use "family name (Q101352)", "male given name (Q12308941)" or "female given name (Q11879590)")
  2. writing system (P282) (use "Cyrillic script (Q8209)")
  3. native label (P1705) (use allways "mul" for the language specification; specific language specifications require a reference)

Note: The transliteration from e.g. Russian (Q7737)/Ukrainian (Q8798)/Serbian (Q9299) etc. to English (Q1860), French (Q150), German (Q188) and various other languages is different.

For more information please see this page: Wikidata:WikiProject Names/Properties.

I wish you continued happy work on Wikidata. Best regards, HarryNº2 (talk) 16:28, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your message. Will do accordingly! Fmadore007 (talk) 17:37, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicates

[edit]

Please be more careful. With Pauline Hope Cheong (Q93245210) you've created an easy-to-catch duplicate item.-- Spermalotto (talk) 17:53, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, you are right. Thank you for pointing this out Fmadore007 (talk) 08:18, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Careful with VIAF

[edit]

Hi Fmadore007,

Seyni Moumouni (Q117483917) is linked to a VIAF Cluster. Please link other identifiers! Jackie Bensberg (talk) 15:54, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry about that. However, the VIAF assigned to Aminatou Seyni (Q65048587) is incorrect. It should be assigned to Seyni Moumouni (Q117483917), who is an academic. The same goes for the Bibliothèque nationale de France ID and the IdRef ID. What should I do? Thank you Fmadore007 (talk) 16:35, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I thought you were more of an expert on this ;). I would suggest to ask @Kolja21, Epìdosis: for professional help.--Jackie Bensberg (talk) 10:40, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My ping hasn't worked: Please ping you them again.
Jan Hogendorn (Q117485293) is another duplicate, which I've merged.--Jackie Bensberg (talk) 18:19, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
