The potential for heavy snow at higher elevations in the western U.S. will continue for many spots through the weekend. NWS is extending the comment period for the Experimental National Geographic Information System (GIS) Map Viewer (“the Viewer”) web application hosted on the Amazon Web Services public cloud through May 27, 2022. The following notification and news article contain more information. The Viewer is also embedded below.
Many of the National Weather Service data sets are available in formats that are able to be imported directly into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or your own custom map viewers or web pages. Data formats include downloadable shapefiles and KML formats, web services, and our basemaps in shapefile format.
