Synthesis and Advanced characterisation of oxide electrode for Li-ion batteries

Research gate

Research Interests
My research focuses on designing, performing and analysing operando multi-modal characterisation experiments to understand the fundamental relationship between structure/dynamics and properties of electrode materials for Li-ion batteries.
For example, to investigate the capacity limit of anionic redox, I designed and synthetized model Li extra rich materials and studied their redox mechanism using a multi-modal operando characterisation workflow coupled with DFT calculations featuring:
i) structural determination (X-ray & neutron diffraction),
ii) electronic properties measurement (X-ray absorption spectroscopy),
iii) investigation of degradation mechanism (online gas analysis and UV spectroscopy of the electrolyte) [3, 4, 6, 8, 10].
At the particle scale, I have studied lithiation dynamics combining operando optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction with phase field modelling whose kinetic parameters were determined by electrochemical and NMR experiments [1, 2].
Finally at the electrode scale, I'm combining neutron imaging with microprobe X-ray diffraction to quantitatively determine the lithiation heterogeneities in the depth of the electrode under high rate operation.
