This article is about taunts in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. For general information, see Taunt.

The following is a list of all taunts in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Beginning in this game, each character has three taunts instead of one.

Bowser[edit]

Note that Bowser performs the same taunts even in his Giga Bowser form.

  • Up Taunt: Throws his head back, spinning it in a circle, and roars.
  • Side Taunt: Snaps furiously in front of himself five times.
  • Down Taunt: Balances precariously on one leg, similar to his teetering animation.

Captain Falcon[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Charges himself up with fire, similar to the Falcon Punch.
  • Side Taunt: Holds out his hand as if he were challenging a character and says, "Come on!"
  • Down Taunt: Faces the camera, salutes and exclaims "Show me your moves." This taunt is notable for having a different animation depending on whether he is facing right or left; Falcon will finish the taunt faster if he faces the left.

Diddy Kong[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Throws his cap up in the air and catches it on his head. This is a reference to his victory pose in Donkey Kong Country, after he defeats a boss or wins in a bonus room.
  • Side Taunt: Holds his hands in front of him, chattering.
  • Down Taunt: Jumps from one foot to the other, clapping his hands above his head, a reference to his "level complete" dance from Donkey Kong Country.

Donkey Kong[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Beats his chest, like his idle animation from Donkey Kong Country, only more animated.
  • Side Taunt: Shakes himself, as if his fur was wet.
  • Down Taunt: Faces the camera and shrugs his shoulders, making a confused noise.

Falco[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Kicks his reflector around and says "Piece of cake." (楽勝だぜ。, An easy win.) before catching it.
  • Side Taunt: Holds out his hand and slowly raises it, saying "Don't try me!" (かかってきな。, Come bring it.)
  • Down Taunt: Spins on one foot, then poses with one of his arms/wings before him, stating "Hands off my prey!" (俺の獲物に手を出すな!, Get your hands off my prey!) whilst doing so.

Fox[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Charges up with flames, like with his Fire Fox move, and says "Here I come!" (行くぞ!, Let's go!)
  • Side Taunt: Throws and catches his blaster.
  • Down Taunt: Leans back and states "Come on!" (かかってこい!, Come at me!) whilst waving his hand.

Ganondorf[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Hovers in mid-air and spins before laughing menacingly.
  • Side Taunt: Slams his fist into his open palm and cracks his knuckles, creating dark flames and saying "Heh!"
  • Down Taunt: Takes out his sword, looks at it, which emits darkness from the tip, and then puts it back.

Ice Climbers[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Put their hammers down and jump up and down, as they did when they completed a level in their game.
  • Side Taunt: Swing their hammers forward saying "Youp!" as their clothes sway to the wind.
  • Down Taunt: Jump around in a circle happily.

Ike[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Charges up his sword as wind blows into his cape, grunting loudly.
  • Side Taunt: Holds out his sword and says "Prepare yourself!" (覚悟しろ。, Get prepared.) The pose Ike does is the same pose as his battle start animation from Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.
  • Down Taunt: Wind blows into his cape as he slams his sword into the ground and grunts, before removing it. His battle start animation from Radiant Dawn started with his sword already in the ground, while him putting his sword into the ground was done by Mist, Ike's sister.

Jigglypuff[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Spins around on one foot, then looks at the camera inflated, saying "Jigglypuff!" (プリプリーン!)
  • Side Taunt: Twirls around many times, then strikes a pose (similar to Kirby's side taunt, except it twirls faster).
  • Down Taunt: Breathes all the air out of itself and falls to the ground, flattened. It inflates itself upon contact. Similar to its fainting animation in home-console Pokémon games, such as Pokémon Stadium and Battle Revolution.

King Dedede[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Holds up his hammer in celebration. For some reason, when done facing left in this game, the movement and sound are played out of sync.
  • Side Taunt: Twirls his hammer and laughs.
  • Down Taunt: Spins around in a circle, chanting while patting his belly.

Kirby[edit]

Usage of any of these taunts will get rid of whatever ability he has copied.

  • Up Taunt: Performs part of his victory dance.
  • Side Taunt: Does a twirl, similar to the action he does when selected to play in Smash 64.
  • Down Taunt: Waves and says "Hi!". The taunt's animation differs slightly, depending on what direction Kirby is facing.

Link[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Swings his sword, then sheathes and unsheathes it. This is a reference to his Twilight Princess "well done" sheathe.
  • Side Taunt: Navi flies out in front of him, then returns.
  • Down Taunt: Performs a pose whereby he stands on one leg and holds his sword in an attack position. Similar to the pose he performs after hitting an enemy with his sword in Zelda II: Adventure of Link.

Lucario[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Floats in mid-air and growls, emitting aura from his body.
  • Side Taunt: Holds one hand forward and one behind his back.
  • Down Taunt: Stands on one foot and holds one hand in mid-air. This is very similar to Link's down taunt.

Lucas[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Trips over and shakes his head, similar to his pratfall animation.
  • Side Taunt: Duster's Rope Snake comes out and talks to him. This taunt is odd, considering that in Mother 3, Lucas himself never used the Rope Snake, only Duster did.
  • Down Taunt: Holds out a sparkle and fires it behind him, grunting.

Luigi[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Performs five quick poses, one after the other. When switching from pose to pose, he says, "Ho Ha Hee Hay Hoo".
  1. Luigi flashes a V-Sign. He used this pose in Luigi's Mansion when collecting a key.
  2. Luigi clicks his fingers imitating guns, while looking to the right.
  3. Luigi takes on a thinking pose, his eyes looking offscreen. This pose is, in some respects, similar to his Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time artwork.
  4. Crouches down to the floor with his back turned to the player. This pose is similar to his "Bogey" pose in Mario Golf.
  5. Luigi assumes his trophy position from the SSE, but with his left leg slightly raised. This pose also resembles his artwork from Luigi's Mansion.
  • Side Taunt: Stands straight up with hands on hips, falls forward stiff on the floor, then seems to balance himself back up again. He says something that resembles "Pow pow". This is also one of his victory poses from Melee and the pose in his SSB4 artwork.
  • Down Taunt: Crosses his arms behind his back and performs a small, shy kick, along with a bashful "Hm". The kick can damage an opponent if it connects, acting as a meteor smash; in this game, Luigi's taunt is the strongest meteor smash at 0%, due to its fixed knockback. However, its pitiful range and slow startup severely limits its effectiveness. It is similar to his pose when he loses a minigame in Mario Party 2.

Mario[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Grows to a super-size, as if taking a Super Mushroom power-up, before shrinking again. This also increases his hurtbox. The size increase stacks with special matches and actual super mushrooms. During the taunt, Mario mimics the standing pose seen in the original Super Mario Bros.
  • Side Taunt: Twirls and removes his cap. Mario often does this taunt when he completes a level in some of his games, mainly New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario 64.
  • Down Taunt: Spins around in mid-air with his arms and legs outstretched before falling on his back. This is a reference to his death animation in the original Donkey Kong game.

Marth[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Holds up his sword, emitting light from the tip.
  • Side Taunt: Furiously swings his sword before resheathing it.
  • Down Taunt: Swings his sword around and says in Japanese: みんな、みていてくれ! ("Everyone, watch me!").

Meta Knight[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Spins around, similar to his entrance animation, and to his exit animation from Kirby Super Star.
  • Side Taunt: Points his sword forward, says "Fight me!" (勝負だ!, Battle!) and waves it a few times.
  • Down Taunt: Opens his wings and challenges "Come!". If he performs it facing left, he will look at the background instead, as characters in Smash 64 did.

Mr. Game & Watch[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Rings his bell above his body.
  • Side Taunt: Rings his bell in front of him.
  • Down Taunt: Performs a single jump on the spot.

Ness[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Faces the camera, nods and says "OK!"
  • Side Taunt: Holds out his baseball bat.
  • Down Taunt: Fires a series of sparkles in front of him, grunting.

Olimar[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Jumps up and down.
  • Side Taunt: Lies on the floor and rolls around slightly, similar to Pikachu's taunt.
  • Down Taunt: Swings his hips.

Peach[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Takes out her parasol and twirls it above her head, saying "Sweet!"
  • Side Taunt: Dances, singing "La la la la la la" in the tune of Ring around the Rosie.
  • Down Taunt: Performs a spin, then poses and winks, saying "Uh-huh!".

Pikachu[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Charges up its cheeks with electricity and glares at the screen, saying "Piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii..."
  • Side Taunt: Waves at the camera, yelling "Pika, Pika!"
  • Down Taunt: Lies on the ground, curls and rolls around, saying "Pikaaaaaaaaaaaaa!"

Pit[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Spins his swords above his head and declares "The fight is on!" (勝負だ!, Battle!)
  • Side Taunt: Swings his swords and says "You're not ready yet!" (まだまだ!, Not over yet!)
  • Down Taunt: Opens his wings and starts ascending.

Pokémon Trainer[edit]

  • All Taunts: Every time one of the Pokémon Trainer's Pokémon is doing a taunt, the Pokémon Trainer himself will thrust his fist in the direction of the taunt.

Charizard[edit]

  • Up taunt: Faces the screen, lowering its head, then roars towards the sky while flapping its wings. Similar to its pose when entering a battle in Pokémon Stadium.
  • Side taunt: Faces the screen while growling and extending its wings, flapping them at the screen.
  • Down taunt: Looks at the screen while growling and stomping viciously.

Ivysaur[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Shakes itself, spinning its leaves and bulb.
  • Side Taunt: Stands on its front legs and walks around in a circle, saying "Saur, Ivysaur!". Grunts in the Japanese version.
  • Down Taunt: Throws out its vines and spins, chanting "Ivy, Ivy!". Grunts in the Japanese version.

Squirtle[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Jumps and does a backflip in mid-air, before chanting "Squirtle, Squirtle!" (ゼッゼニ!)
  • Side Taunt: Spins around on its tail, water coming from its shell. It then says "Squirtle!" once it has finished. Says nothing in the Japanese version.
  • Down Taunt: Withdraws into its shell and spins around. Says ガ! in the Japanese version.

R.O.B.[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Faces the camera and spins his arms and head in a circle.
  • Side Taunt: Faces the camera and moves his head around, firing a small laser from his eyes.
  • Down Taunt: Faces the camera, moves his arms down, and then moves them back up again, spinning them whilst he does so. Based on R.O.B.'s victory animation from Mario Kart DS.

Samus[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Thrusts her hand behind her while the jets on her back light up.
  • Side Taunt: Part of her arm cannon comes out, with the Zero Laser part shown.
  • Down Taunt: Points her arm cannon behind her, then in front of her.

Sheik[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Stands on one hand.
  • Side Taunt: Pulls out her Chain.
  • Down Taunt: Performs a threatening pose with her right hand before her face.

Snake[edit]

  • All Taunts: Hides in a cardboard box, which is a method of stealthing in the Metal Gear series. All three of his taunts are variations of this. His up taunt is fastest to cancel, his down taunt being slowest and his side taunt is between them speed-wise. The box has a damaging hitbox after Snake stands back up and throws it off himself. Any character can remove Snake's cardboard box and throw it in any direction, and it counts as a heavy item.

Sonic[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Does a frontflip and poses, tutting. The pose originates from a piece of official artwork for Sonic Adventure.
  • Side Taunt: Looks at the camera and runs in place, chanting "You're too slow!" (遅すぎだぜ!, You're too slow!).
  • Down Taunt: Performs a windmill, chanting "Come on, step it up!" He says "Come on!" in English in the Japanese version.

Toon Link[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Waves the Wind Waker, conducting a tune at the end, which is the same tune heard after completing a song in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.
  • Side Taunt: Looks around uncertainly.
  • Down Taunt: Swings the Master Sword in front of himself while yelling in a panicked tone, ending with him being comically exhausted and catching his breath.

Wario[edit]

Note that Wario performs the same taunts even in his Wario-Man form.

  • Up Taunt: Laughs so hard he unhinges his jaw and has to close it using his hands.
  • Side Taunt: Wiggles his posterior at the screen, laughing.
  • Down Taunt: Performs various three-fingered salutes, chanting "Wa! Wa! Wa!"
  • Wario Bike Taunt: Wario can also taunt while riding his Wario Bike; he faces to the right and does his "W" sign with both hands, then picks his nose.

Wolf[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Leans his head back and howls.
  • Side Taunt: Does three kicks whilst spinning on one foot, and says "What's the matter, scared?" (どうしたどうした?, What's wrong, what's wrong?)
  • Down Taunt: Kneels down, slaps one hand on the ground and snarls.

Yoshi[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Dances around in a circle, chanting "Yoshi!" as he finishes.
  • Side Taunt: Chases his tail in circles, then lifts up an arm as he finishes.
  • Down Taunt: Yoshi faces the camera and jumps up and down whilst chanting.

Zelda[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Holds up one arm, magic coming from her hand.
  • Side Taunt: Puts her hands together and creates a small flame. This was also one of her victory poses in Melee.
  • Down Taunt: Waves.

Zero Suit Samus[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Throws and catches her paralyzer, saying "Is that all?"
  • Side Taunt: Lashes out with her plasma whip and challenges "Try me."
  • Down Taunt: Spins her plasma whip around her body, saying "You're mine."
