Do you want to study at a marine biology university in Norway, and get a solid foundation for your further career, both nationally and internationally with a master’s in marine science?

Then the Master’s in Ocean Resources at NTNU could be the perfect choice for you. The world’s oceans have enormous living resources which will become more and more important for human’s future welfare. In order to use, protect, and further sustainably develop these resources, there is a need for dedicated and well-educated young people with broad and interdisciplinary knowledge about marine biological resources, marine environment, and marine technologies. All of which enable sustainable use of resources and societal aspects in the marine sector.

This is what you’ll learn:

  • Become familiar with research being conducted in marine biology, aquaculture, fisheries and food science, and the related research in marine technology.
  • Understand the biological or technological theories and methods that are relevant for a master project that extends over one or two semesters.
  • Become familiar with the complex interactions in the marine environment and the interdisciplinary needed in marine and food science.
  • Become able to discuss and see biological issues and challenges from a societal perspective.
  • Understand and become able to explain the research and analytical methods within a specialization.

A Master’s degree in Ocean Resources will give you a solid basis for further careers, both nationally and internationally. The multidisciplinary background this programme offers has been at the request of both the fisheries, aquaculture industry and other marine companies in the seafood cluster. As well as other marine sectors, and administrative authorities involved in the management of the marine environment and resources.

You’ll find the faculty centrally situated at Gløshaugen campus, close to Trondheim city center. As a student enrolled in this programme, you will have access to state-of-the-art facilities, marine laboratories for culture of aquaculture species, computer labs, research laboratories and platforms (research vessels).

The Master of Science programme in Ocean Resources (MSOCEAN) is a two-year international multidisciplinary MSc-programme with five specializations.

The programme aims to give the students a broad perspective besides their main in-depth field in marine science or marine engineering.

If you want to take a master’s in marine science at a marine biology university, you must have the right background. It is crucial to ensure you meet all the requirements before seeking admission at NTNU.

You will need a BSc/BEng degree or equivalent to apply for Master in Ocean Resources in areas related to marine such as:

  • Marine Technology
  • Marine Biology
  • Marine Biochemistry
  • Aquaculture
