Lag on Timeline -worse w/ more keys Posted December 22nd, 2015 in Animation

Hey guys,

I haven't been around NG for ages, but if anyone should know it should be one of you guys!

Lately I've been working on a higher resolution. Meaning a bigger timeline. And I noticed, the more keyframes, the more my timeline begins to slow down.

And I'm not talking about actual content. This is an empty Scene 1 with a bunch of empty keyframes on empty layers. (of course it happens as well when there is more content).

And the funny thing is, if I hide my timeline, the lag is gone. The less keyframes are on my timeline (visibly), the better the framerate gets. It's terrible! So shrinking my timeline more makes the framerate go up.

Here is an example screenshot, if I press enter here, it slows down to about 3/4 fps: http://puu.sh/m4Msg/4a19c88195.png (please notice the FPS at the bottom of the timeline windows. It's 1.82fps)

Of course this is an extreme example, but it's already noticeable with about 10 or 15 layers with several keyframes.

Also, I notice that the lag is less on CS5.5, more on CS6, and huge on CC2015.

Besides that, I'm working on a computer with ridiculous specs. (64 gigs ram, 3TB SSD, one of the latest video cards etc etc).

I'm working on Windows 10. Problem doesn't seem to happen on Mac, but will on all other windows versions. Also happens on other computers I tested on (colleagues)

The flash file should be easily recreated on your own Flash Version. Again, notice that the more keyframes are on screen (visibly) the slower Flash and its timeline gets.

Just to make sure it's clear: I'm talking about inside Flash. Not about the export SWF/Flash Player. This is while working.

Please let me know if anyone else is suffering from this and if so, how to solve it. Not even Adobe support is able to give me an answer... And I feel like, since it's getting worse every Flash Update, it may even get worse when Animate CC comes out...

Many thanks for reading. I hope someone at least knows what's happening here.

Cheers/Thanks,

Niels

The first suited I made, came out before this show. I really like the show though, but indeed they have similarities.

The problem is....there was already a show LIKE it.

"The Secret Show"

-Done is same animation style (sharp vector shapes)
-Same humor & ridiculous plots
-Very similar characters.
-British

It was like...watching the same thing.

Audio Syncing problem Posted May 25th, 2010 in Animation

Hi guys.

Right now I'm working on a 15-minute during animated short. I'd like to create this project fully in Flash, but I seem to run in two maaaaarjor problems. Anyone of you recognizes this? I'll put you in the credits if you know a solution that works :)

Problem 1: Flash and Ram. Flash CS4 (and CS3 too only a bit less) has big troubles opening big fla files. This is an issue since I'm putting together scenes that were created in separate files. Mainly the audio bloats the .fla file big time. I see the Ram usage running up to 930 mb when I try to copy and paste from one scene to another. Flash crashes a lot too. I'm afraid my computer will not be able to work with the files when ALL the scenes are being put together. I know Audio files bloat it a lot (Mp3 and .Wavs seem to bloat about the same ammount. So it doesn't matter whether I import MP3 or .Wav)
-Is it possible to embed audio files externally when publishing a flash file? If so, how? Or maybe an external library that doesn't nom away all my Ram. Flash should be able to handle .fla files that are a little over 100 mb right? So is there a solution for that as well?

Problem 2: Flash and (streaming) Audio. After about a few minutes when the film is playing the sync of the audio starts to get off more and more. This is very strange since the audio is put to Stream. Better yet, most audio files are broken down into smaller files, still when a keyframe should play a streaming sound, it does that later and later as the film plays. Even when I export a PNG sequence and a .Wav sequence and put them together in After Effects, it's still not sync. The length of the video is 99,97 percent of the length audio. I tried exporting with different settings (Hertz and Codecs, like MP3 and Speech), but no results. I also tried putting in a new layer where a sound loops with the volume set to 0. It doesn't matter if it's put to Event or Stream, both don't do the trick. This problem occurs in CS4 and CS3.

Does anyone have a solution for any of these two problems? Or maybe suggestions that I haven't tried yet?

Thanks,

Niels Beekes

Oh and see my profile if you want to look at screenshots or concept art from the film (called The New Suited) I added a screenshot from the film :)

Wow!!! Thank you very much! I really appreciate it!
I will do my best to continue to make more animation. I'm working on one right now that is a Newgrounds-only flash :)
