"October Revolution" was my first full song that I produced using Logic Pro. Since I originally released it on Newgrounds, I've learned a lot more about the program and how to mix & master. I wanted to create a higher quality version of the song for an upcoming EP that I have planned, so this is the result of months of tweaking and touching up various parts until I got a product that I'm happy with. I think this is far superior to the original, and for new listeners, I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it!
The main melody of the chorus line came to me back in 2016 one day, and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since. I wrote the rest of the song separately and put the two themes together. As anyone who doesn't really have any meaning to their songs would say, the lyrics are "open to interpretation." Thematically, though, I inserted a lot of references to the Soviet Union/October Revolution, and the song can broadly be interpreted as somebody comparing the change in their life brought upon by an unidentified individual to the rapid change in that period of Russian history. Here are the lyrics if you'd like to attempt to make some sort of sense of them:
I've got so much to tell you, but I don't know quite what to say
It looks like all our comrades are thrown in the gulag every day
But it's alright now
The agony and jealousy is getting to me, and it's killing me to see me this way
Those Bolsheviks and Mensheviks have got it all wrong, I just want this song to turn them away
Go away and leave us be, it was fine before you were here
You knew your place, but you lost your way, I want you to disappear
But it's alright now
Your provisions aren't helping me or anyone else, now it's time to throw the whole thing away
In April, I will show you, no more walking on shells, the only treatment is the light of the day
Oh now tell me, what do you hear
Does it sound like the music is drawing near
And it's been so long since you disappeared
Honey, don't you know it's alright
Now tell me, what do you see
Does it look like those people are coming for me
Is the whole world crumbling right at my feet
Honey, don't you know it's alright
You're alright
You're right, it's alright
Right, you're alright
It's alright
Latvia don't mean a lot to ya
Go and hide your gold in Lithuania
'Cause if you ever think that you can run too far
Just take it to the SSR
I told you once, now I'll tell you twice, it don't mean a thing to me
It's like I'm living with a cult of personality
But it's alright now
Go shove your motivation where you think it belongs, don't go thinking that I don't know the truth
It's not expropriation when you're getting along, the proletariat is thinking it too
Carry on, do what you want, I'll never look away
There'll be no turning back, and I'll be keeping it that way
But it's alright now
Time and time again I will be saying the words without ever knowing what it all means
From England to Siberia, from Russia to Iberia, and everything we'll see in between
Oh now tell me, just who are you
To go around acting like there's so much to do
You say that you're too busy but you've gotta make room
Honey, don't you know it's alright
Now tell me, what's that you say
Everything just has to wait for some other day
Call the revolutionaries, tell them they have to stay
Honey, don't you know it's alright
You're alright
You're right, it's alright
Right, you're alright
It's alright
Come on now, just show me how
You've got a lot to lose, don't look so proud
You think you've got it all, but I say
Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall
Here to stay, I've got no say
Until the day, don't be that way
Finally you see
All the times you went all around the bend
Just to keep your cool, but you made a fool out of me
Oh now tell me, what do you hear
Does it sound like the music is drawing near
And it's been so long since you disappeared
Honey, don't you know it's alright
Now tell me, what do you see
Does it look like those people are coming for me
Is the whole world crumbling right at my feet
Honey, don't you know it's alright
