Barbara and Adam Maitland, married couple killed in an automobile accident, come to the realization that they are ghosts, and will be staying in their house an additional 125 years. But the new owners of the house, Delia and Charles Deetz, are intolerable. The Maitland's amateur efforts to frighten them away fail; they hire a questionable bio-exorcist, Betelgeuse, to finish the task. Won an Oscar for Best Makeup; received a Hugo nomination for Best Dramatic Presentation.
