I watched I Know My First Name Is Steven with amazment for the first time last night. I love how the movie followed the true-life events. Since I didn't know anything of the true story events, I decided to look them up. Like I already stated, the film followed the real life events really well. I also like how, even though it was a true story, the fact that some suspense and knowledge was "left out" until the end of the movie. I had no clue that Kenneth Parnell was raping or had any physical contact with Steven until the last hour of the movie when that knowledge was brought to light. Overall I loved the movie. More people should watch it and know that this stuff really does happen in real life, and not just on movies.

Just finished watching this movie, wow! I believe I have seen this movie before, but it is so compelling I sat through the 4 hours again.

I cannot imagine what the real life Steven and his family went through? Kenneth Parnell is a real sicko, they should have castrated him. I am just glad that Steven had the courage to get Timmy and himself to safety.

I would like to know (in the movie) who was the real Steven (he played a policeman).

I have seen this movie twice. The first time I was held spellbound as I watched the events unfold. I was fortunate enough to catch it again, and I was AGAIN held captive by the drama, even though I knew what was coming. IT was a very, VERY moving drama, and I would watch it over and over again. It is a terrible shame that once Steven was finally able to get himself and the younger boy to safety, he did not live a longer life. My thoughts are with the Stayner family always. It is such a sad movie about real life events. It SHOULD be shown MORE often, and hopefully it will be. IF it is, "I" will make sure I watch it.. each and every time ! IF Timmy has been able to have some degree of "normalcy" once he was returned home, then Steven's efforts did not go in vain.
