At the TUM School of Medicine and Health medical students are trained during the clinical part of their studies after successfully passing the first section of the Medical Examination.
The preclinical part is organized as a joint training program of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) and TUM and is taking place at LMU predominantly. The clinical part at TUM is attended by over 1,600 students. Using outstanding research, the common goal of the University Hospital rechts der Isar and TUM School of Medicine and Health is to develop scientific findings which both serve the fundamental understanding of disease processes and directly benefit patients. It is also a major concern of the TUM School of Medicine and Health to prepare students for their future work by sharing state of the art knowledge and by demonstrating human commitment.
This effort pays off: in a nationwide comparison of performance in the medical state exam the TUM School of Medicine and Health has consistently ranked among the best for years.
At the Medical Training Center medical students train essential skills and abilities for later contact with their patients. The compulsory course modules, which are based on each other, enable students to expand their skills each semester in a realistic learning environment under professional supervision. We use realistic models and modern patient simulators and work closely with qualified actors and actresses to prepare our students for their everyday clinical work in the best possible way.
Upon completion of the clinical part the further practical training of the future doctors takes place in the University Hospital rechts der Isar or in a TUM Academic Teaching Hospital. We cooperate with more than 20 Academic Teaching Hospitals in the city of Munich, the surrounding area and the whole of southern Bavaria.
The TUM Medical Education Center (TUM MEC) comprises the Chair of Medical Didactics, Medical Teaching Development and Educational Research and has set itself the goal of combining medical didactic research as well as curriculum and teaching development in order to create excellence in medical teaching.
The Graduate Center for Medicine and Health (GCMH) offers four different PhD programs suitable for medical students and natural scientists. The programs include a wide array of continuing education opportunities. The GCMH is part of the TUM Graduate School (TUM-GS) and is responsible for the doctoral education at the TUM School of Medicine and Health.
