Description

Cabo Verde’s National Olympic Committee (NOC) was formed in 1989 and given official recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the IOC session in Monte Carlo, in September 1993. Cabo Verde made its Olympic début in 1996 and has competed at all Olympic Games since then, but it has not yet competed at the Olympic Winter Games. They have been represented by 18 athletes in their seven Olympic appearances, competing in track & field athletics, boxing, judo, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming, and taekwondo.

The top Olympic performance by a Cabo Verdean came in 2008, when Nelson Cruz placed 48th of 95 participants in the men’s marathon. Cape Verde also achieved four ninth place finishes in combat sports: two in judo, by Adysângela Moniz and Sandrine Billiet, and two in boxing, by Davilson Morais and Daniel Varela De Pina.
