München-based track & field athlete Carl Kaltenbach took part in the 1906 Athens Games in several different technical disciplines – shot put, discus throw, stone throw and javelin throw, but he was eliminated in qualifying in all the events. Kaltenbach placed 17th in the ancient pentathlon, but won a gold medal with the German team in tug-of-war. In 1902 he set a world record with the 4×100 relay. By profession he was a businessman.
