In mid-June 2017, the town of Pushkin near St. Petersburg, Russia welcomed the Fifth International Summer School on Higher Education Research, a joint initiative between the HSE Institute of Education and Peking University’s China Institute for Educational Finance Research. This year, the Summer School focused on higher education and social inequality.

On June 29 – 30, 2017, an international Singapore Conference on Applied Psychology (SCAP2017) took place in Singapore. Psychologists from 14 countries took part in the event. A paper by Natalia Antonova, Associate Professor at HSE, and Vladislav Gorbov, HSE graduate, received the Best Paper Award.
From June 22 – 24, 2017, the 4th international conference in econometrics ‘Modern Econometric Tools and Applications’ took place at HSE in Nizhny Novgorod. Andrey Maximov, Professor, Head of theDepartment of Economic Theory and Econometrics and chair of the conference organizing committee, shared a brief overview of what the event achieved.
Yulia Ivanova and Pavel Sokolov, Leading Research Fellows at the HSE Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities, conducted three seminars for the students of the University of Cologne’s Slavic Department on June 27 and 28. The aim of the HSE researchers was to inform students about the relations between Rus and Italy during the Middle Ages and the early Modern period, as well as shed light on some facts of how Italian culture was perceived in Russia from the 18th through the 20th centuries.
Students from HSE ISSEK, Stanford University, and Rice University have researched how Russia and the US cooperate in cybersecurity and explored the nuances present in the approaches that each country takes in this area, including different understandings of cybersecurity-related terms. The research was conducted in 2016-2017 as part of the Stanford US-Russia Forum (SURF), a programme dedicated to developing US-Russia cooperation. Over a period of 8 months, 30 American and Russian students and young professionals worked on their projects.
On May 18th, 2017, an Eco-energy Town Workshop took place in Seoul under the auspices of the South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. As part of the session ‘Opportunities and problems of building energy-efficient cities’, Ilya Dolmatov, Director of the HSE Institute of Pricing and Regulation of Natural Monopolies, gave a presentation on ‘Energy efficient cities in Russia: priorities and challenges for the future’.
On April 27-28, 2017 HSE hosted the first research conference ‘Russia a Hundred Years after the Revolution: Causes and Consequences’.
