Praefectus praetorio, Roma İmparatorluk muhafızlarının liderine verilen bir unvandır. Roma İmparatorluğu tarihi boyunca imparatorun seçimi gibi birçok siyasi olayda etkili olmuşlardır. Bu makam İmparator I. Konstantin döneminde kaldırılmıştır.

Modern historians suggest that, if Valerius Ligur was a prefect at all, he may have been mistaken for a man named Varius Ligur, who seems to have been a more likely candidate for the office.
