When Hoist goes prospecting in the hope of striking energon, he finds that rickety old mines are not built for Bots, especially big scary Dinobots.

Synopsis
Hoist shows off his cowboy impression to Medix, who is confused at his mention of a "Big Tom". Hoist clarifies that Big Tom doesn't exist and he was just demonstrating cowboy mannerisms, but some stomping puts that fact in doubt. It turns out to just be Grimlock, who is trying to figure out a learning activity for today. Medix leaves them to it, and an old newspaper gives Grimlock and Hoist a clue—miners once found energon in a mine. Heatwave okays the mission so long as they pay attention to safety and have backup.
Grimlock and Hoist head for the mine, and Hoist is startled when they're joined by Grimlock's friends Sludge and Snarl. Hoist cautions everyone to be extremely careful as the mine will be unstable. They reach the mine, and Hoist supplies the three Dinobots with nose-flashlights. They charge into the mine, and Hoist suggest they split into teams to search, however Sludge immediately steps in some mine carts and ends up carried off. Snarl, not wanting to be left behind, does the same. Grimlock observes the increasing amount of falling debris as the mine becomes more unstable, shortly before the other two Dinobots crash into him. Hoist catches up with them, and he and Grimlock decide they should evacuate from the mine before there's any more damage. The other two Dinobots are determined to go on and start trying to break their way through the blocked tunnel ahead. Grimlock orders them to stop, just as they strike energon. Unfortunately it's at this point that the mine collapses.
Everyone is all right, but now they're trapped in the mine. Grimlock attempts to contact the Academy for a GroundBridge, but can't get a signal out. He admits he didn't want to look weak to his Dinobot comrades, who in turn admit they were trying to impress Hoist. Luckily Hoist has a plan to carefully dig themselves out by having the Dinobots support the tunnel as he digs. They eventually get free, with Hoist using his winch to pull them the rest of the way. Grimlock reveals he managed to bring a single energon nugget out of the mine so they didn't end up completely empty-handed.
