So you don't like spoilers? MEGATRON KILLS OPTIMUS PRIME!

Spoilsport has a rather appropriate moniker, given that he spoils the fun of his partner Sureshot by being an equally good marksman. In a contest between an intelligent gun and an intelligent gunner, the gun gets a majority vote. His partner resents his interference, and in his turn, Spoilsport resents Sureshot for his lack of appreciation. It can't help that Sureshot is a jerk, of course, and presumably he never calls.

Spoilsport's the name, and there ain't a target I can't hit! Haha!Spoilsport

Events from the UK-only comic stories are in italics.

Spoilsport was among a group of Nebulans who, at great risk to themselves, joined the outlawed Autobots during Zarak and Scorponok's reign of terror on Nebulos. After undergoing the bio-engineering process that allowed them to transform into replacement weapons, they partnered with the six Autobots who had surrendered their weapons some months earlier and Spoilsport was partnered with Sureshot Brothers in Armor!! as his new Targetmaster mode was based on Sureshot's twin laser cannon. Sureshot's Universe profile However, their first mission turned out rather disastrously; despite the fact the Targetmaster upgrade had given their forces the firepower necessary to overwhelm the Decepticons, the conflicts between Autobots and Decepticons were simply too destructive. When Spoilsport and his allies tried to defend the Nursery from a Decepticon incursion, the whole place was left in ruins. Brothers in Armor!!

At some point, Spoilsport and the rest of the Autobot and Nebulan Targetmasters were kidnapped by the Decepticons and held at the Fortress of Despair. They were rescued by the Autobot Headmasters. Worlds Apart!

Afterwards, the Autobots came to realize that the only way to spare Nebulos from further destruction was to quit the planet altogether. Following a distress signal, they left for planet Earth, with the Decepticons in close pursuit. Brothers in Armor!!

Haywire and Sureshot went along with the other Autobot Targetmasters selected to accompany Fortress Maximus to Earth to rescue Buster Witwicky, brother of the newly binary-bonded Spike Witwicky, who proceeded to introduce his team to his father. The group's rescue attempt at the Decepticons island base was ultimately unsuccessful, as the rescue party was caught unawares by the island's automated defenses. The Desert Island of Space!

Spoilsport? More like Mr. Grumpy.

Spoilsport was part of Gort's group of rebel Nebulans. When Targetmaster technology was stolen from the Decepticons, Spoilsport and Sureshot teamed together. Shortly after the process was completed, he boasted to the Autobot leader Optimus Prime that there wasn't a target he couldn't hit (only for Pinpointer to outboast him). During the later battle against the Decepticons, Sureshot instructed him to blast the enemy, and he complied with pleasure. The Rebirth, Part 1 The Rebirth, Part 2 Like the rest of the Nebulan rebels, he accompanied the Autobots back to Cybertron and helped to defeat the Decepticons and bring about a new Golden Age on the planet. Spoil and his five friends were refugees, having fled their home planet of Master when Scorponok and the Decepticons began an all-out siege on the world. They were being chased through space in their starship by the Decepticons when they came across the Battleship Maximus. Fortress gave them safe haven aboard his starship, and the Master citizens attempted to show their gratitude by removing the deadly plasma energy bombs Fortress was trying to dispose of. Their efforts came too late, however, as the plasma energy bombs exploded aboard their ship in space, bathing everyone nearby with energy. Miraculous Warriors, Targetmasters (Part 1)

Spoil survived the explosion, and in fact underwent a miraculous transformation. He and two of his fellow refugees were each now binary bonded to one of the Autobot warriors who had been trying to save them when the plasma bombs went off. The smaller Master warriors could each transform into a powerful weapon and fuse with their larger partner's fist, creating Targetmasters. Spoil and his new partner Sureshot became soldiers together under Fortress's command. Miraculous Warriors, Targetmasters (Part 2)

In a battle for the data of the Master Sword, Spoil bonded with Sureshot to fight the Decepticons. The Master Sword Is in Danger!! Spoil again joined his partner when the Autobot Targetmasters landed on Master to investigate the possible presence of the Decepticons. The two forces battled each other, and the Decepticons were able to wash the Autobots away in a surge of water from an elevated lake. They were eventually able to pull themselves out of the new river and scouted the area for the hidden Decepticons, finding their cave hideout. As they were much smaller than their partners, Peaceman, Pointech, and Spoil volunteered to go ahead, using a small entrance into the factory where the Decepticons were creating the Zarak Shield. When their larger partners again came under attack by the Decepticon Targetmasters, they left the complex and rejoined their comrades, helping force the Decepticons into retreat. The Zarak Shield Turns the Tide

With the Zarak Shield now known to the Autobots, they had a meeting to discuss strategy, which Spoil sat in. Following Pointblank's strategy, the smaller Targetmaster partners joined in an advance part to find the Decepticons. They were soon attacked by the Decepticons, who had detected them. During battle, the Decepticons were distracted by an aircraft sent by the natives of Master, allowing the Autobots to escape. Operation: Destroy the Decepticons After the Decepticons left Master for Earth, the Autobots followed. When Daniel was trapped at Daira, the Targetmasters went ahead to keep watch on Scorponok while the others rescued Daniel. My Friend Sixshot! They were spotted in the asteroid belt and pulled into a battle. The other Autobots came to their rescue, and the fighting ended when Sixshot challenged Chromedome to battle. Duel on the Asteroid

When the Autobots arrived on Earth, the Targetmasters were sent to investigate the Death Tower in Santiago, Chile. They met with Predaking, who was easily taken down by Peacemaker and Pointblank, and returned to the other Autobots with their data. The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 1) The Autobots soon went to Giza, Egypt, to catch the Death Tower there before it emerged. Spoil later joined the Autobots in the decisive battle at the North Pole and the Final Formation that ended Scorponok's machinations on Earth. The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 2)

Legends comic

Years prior to becoming a Targetmaster, Spoilsport was one of six Master warriors who were kidnapped by Scorponok and exposed to plasma energy, removing their ability to speak. When Scorponok returned to Master in 2011 and tried to recapture them and continue his experiments, the six of them fled the planet. Mutant Targetmaster Birth Chapter

In 2021, Spoilsport and the Autobot Targetmasters were battling their Decepticon counterparts in space when Scorponok detonated a black hole, creating a plasma energy shockwave that caused the Targetmaster partners to vanish. Targetmaster Chapter Prologue When they were located in the void of space, the six had been supercharged with plasma energy and gathered together into a clump of guns. The Decepticon Targetmasters attempted to steal them away to the Legends World using Alpha Trion, but the plasma energy was too dangerous and Trion instead scattered them across the dimension. Mutant Targetmaster Birth Chapter Furthermore, the combination of plasma energy with the Legends World's unique energies mutated the Targetmasters, granting them new powers. Bonus Edition Vol. 45

Spoilsport, Pinpointer and Peacemaker ended up underground in an unpopulated area, further absorbing the proton energy used to create the Legends World Bonus Edition Vol. 61 until they were discovered by Metroplex. Bonus Edition Metroplex They were then stolen by Pounce and Wingspan, who used the now extremely powerful Targetmasters to defeat Metroplex before setting their sights on world conquest. Fortunately Fastlane and Cloudraker managed to separate them from the three Targetmasters, who flew off to avoid being used for evil purposes. Bonus Edition Vol. 61 For reasons unknown, they reunited and went berserk, attacking Neo Akihabara City until Windblade captured Pinpointer and used him to defeat Spoilsport and Peacemaker. Bonus Edition Vol. 62

Using her connection to Pinpointer to take remote control of Spoilsport and Peacemaker, Windblade herself attacked the Legends World on the orders of Katsu Don. Her connection to Spoilsport was severed by Twin Twist using electromagnetic waves, allowing him to grab the Targetmaster, bestow him with drill properties and blast Windblade with a "Spoil Drill Hurricane" attack that also freed Peacemaker. Bonus Edition Vol. 65 Twin Twist wielded him for the remainder of the battle with Windblade and Katsu Don. Bonus Edition Vol. 66

Yeah, I shoot out of my butt. You got a problem with that?
  • Sureshot (Targetmaster, 1987)
  • Takara name: Sirshot
  • Takara ID number: C-105
Released in the fourth year of Hasbro's US The Transformers toyline (third year in Europe and in Takara's Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers line), Targetmaster Spoilsport ("Spoil" in Japan) transforms into a "twin laser cannon".
He was only available packed in with his larger partner Sureshot, who has a 5 mm post-hole in his vehicle-mode hood for Spoilsport in gun mode.

United

I ditched my red pants. They were so 1980s retro.
A redeco of Power Core Combiners Airlift, United Spoilsport transforms into a double-barreled gun that can be held by any toy using 5mm weapon-mount points.
His instructions only show the hand-held mode (held by United Kup since there is no modern Sureshot for him to partner with), but as he is a Power Core Combiners Mini-Con mold, he can also be converted into a compact weapon meant for vehicle-mode use (attached by his Powerlinx socket), plus an "armor" mode that connects to a Power Core Combiners Commander toy's chest or back-mounted Powerlinx plug for use in either of their robot modes.
He was only available as part of the Darkside Moon "Movie Preview Campaign" at Bic Camera and Yodobashi Camera stores on March 5th, given away with the purchase of over 3000 yen worth of Transformers product.
This mold was also used to make Recoil and Deduce.

I heard that the 80's is back in!
  • Targetmaster Twin Twist (Deluxe, 2018)
    • Release date: March 24, 2018
    • ID number: LG65
Released in the twenty-seventh wave of TakaraTomy's Legends toyline, Spoil is a new-mold Targetmaster based on the original, with increased posability in robot mode.
He was only available packaged with "Targetmaster Twin Twist", an utterly inexplicable addition. It's possible TakaraTomy was exploring the potential to do a new Sureshot in some manner and plans were skuppered, but budgets still allowed for some small additions to later-run toys.

    Notes

    • The Headmasters character model for Spoil differs from The Transformers one for Spoilsport. Oddly, it does not seem to have ever been published anywhere, with new artwork by Ban Magami used in various Japanese publications alongside the models for the other 5 Targetmaster companions.

    Foreign names
