"I want YOU for U.S. Army!"

Snare is the Predators' Security Chief and surveillance specialist. He's a loner who spends a great deal of time on solo missions. Nevertheless, he is dedicated to the Predators' cause. He has absolutely no fear; he truly doesn't care whether he lives or dies, he just intends to squeeze out every thrill he can while he's still ticking.

During the Predator attack on the Turbomaster base, Snare was almost hit by Autobot fire as Rotorstorm and Stalker faced off. Predator Air Attack!

2005 IDW continuity

First appearance: Last Stand of the Wreckers #1

Snare served under the command of Turmoil when their second-in-command Deadlock abandoned his post. Drift #1

He later served under Tarn at Grindcore prison, where he watched Skids repair the mass teleporter so that he could repair it himself if it broke down again. Speak, Memory! (Part 2)

Snare was part of Skyquake's force sent to crush a resistance movement in the Skomiloch Territories. Snare's security expertise helped ensure the resistance posed no further trouble, and he showed himself to be a diligent and dedicated officer. Skyquake then set up his own mini-empire in the territories. During this time away from regular Decepticon protocols, Snare hung out with Stalker and began taking a sadistic pleasure in his treatment of the prisoners. His reviewer Calcar considered that to be the sort of go-getting attitude the Decepticons needed! Someone with his standards and diligence would require an incredibly obscene shock to the system to doubt the Decepticon cause! Snare's personnel evaluation

"Oh, good, Captain Crazy took over. I'm excited."

Many years later, Snare was part of Skyquake's Predator army during the attack on Garrus-9. It was a routine conquest operation... until Overlord showed up. Snare wet himself at the sight, and that was before the sociopath killed Skyquake and usurped command. He later stood with fellow Predator Stalker as Overlord announced his reign over the former prison, and spent the next three years as witness to the pointless, ongoing "games". In one such game, he saw two Decepticons killed for being careless and was told to bring a wounded Autobot to be "recycled" for fun. He didn't look happy about this, or, before then, about Skyquake's death. Last Stand of the Wreckers #1

At the three years of pointless slaughter, he had an epiphany and deliberately released the Autobot war criminal Impactor from his cell. Snare was too scared of Overlord to escape Garrus-9 himself, but Impactor had a reputation which showed he could pull it off and bring back help. Last Stand of the Wreckers #2 Snare was present when Overlord confronted Perceptor's team and watched as he executed Rotorstorm. Last Stand of the Wreckers #3

"Wait, I've changed my mind, I want to li-"
"Huh? Oh, sorry"

Snare then tracked down Kup and Guzzle, two other Wreckers who were trying to rescue Grimlock from the facility. He told them that Grimlock was "long gone" and that Overlord had most likely driven him mad anyway. The two Autobots didn't believe him at first, but Snare went on to take them to three of their comrades who had been captured by Stalker. Stalker was furious about his fellow Predator's treachery, and blasted a large hole in Snare's skull. As he lay injured, Impactor approached the Decepticon and asked him why he had sacrificed himself for the Wreckers. Snare explained that while Overlord had told the Decepticons that "play makes you free", they were really just pawns in Overlord's own game as he tried to grab Megatron's attention. Impactor offered to move him to safety before Overlord arrived, but Snare refused to let Overlord learn of his betrayal and knew he had done something good with his life anyway. He requested that Impactor kill him, and the Wrecker complied by crushing Snare's brain module before he could even finish the sentence. Last Stand of the Wreckers #4

Released in the eighth year of the European-market Transformers toyline (the final one to use the original faction symbols), Predator Snare transforms in to a Grumman X-29 fighter jet. He is equipped with a hand-held spring-loaded missile launcher that can mount on his jet-mode underside (although it cannot be positioned straight forward with the landing gear deployed). He has a "Megavisor" slide-gimmick that, when attached to the larger Megavisor scopes on Skyquake and Stalker, shows a unique image in their scopes; in Snare's case, it's a robot-mode image of Boss firing his trademark turbo-launcher.
Due to a combination of design and Gold Plastic Syndrome, the Predator launchers are quite delicate. It's best never to load one of the launchers while it is in the hand of a Predator—the post is most likely to just snap right off. The trigger is also likely to snap off due to relying on on the plastic bending as opposed to being hinged.
This mold was also available in Japan as the Jet Corps member Flare Jet; while the core toys are identical, the two releases have slightly-different missiles which are broadly the same but have ton of molding detail differences.

Notes

  • Like a great many other characters from the Hasbro EU toyline, Snare's card art shows him with a different head than what the final toy got, lacking the fang-mouth-looking indentations and having a different crest. This art error was fixed for his Japanese doppelganger, Flare Jet.
  • Snare's final stickers are different from the ones shown in the Predator catalog photo.

Foreign names
