Barricade (IDW)

Barricade is a Decepticon from the 2005 IDW portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Barricade is a police officer. Though aggressive, violent, unpleasant, and probably thoroughly corrupt, he does have a certain sense of honor and pride in his role as a peacekeeper... though he interprets that job description rather loosely.

Fiction

2005 IDW continuity

Barricade was a Decepticon police officer who settled on Starscream's post-war Cybertron to rebuild a peaceful society, though unlike others he refused to join the neutrals out of faith in the true Decepticon cause—equality. The Killing Jar Despite this, he wasn't above 'collecting' pre-war shanix on the side. Redemption

He participated in the investigation of the murders of Wilder, Brisko, and Treadshot, stressing that the victims were Cybertronians and not just some "'Cons", though Starscream thought it unimportant and advised him to take it easy with the investigation. City of Steel After three more Decepticons were found dead, Barricade recognized one of the victims as Stratotronic, leading the investigation onward to Gutcruncher. Fight or Flee Following the fiery death of Gutcruncher and even more Decepticons, Barricade joined Chromia, Sandstorm and the Dinobots in apprehending the primary suspects, the Firecons. "I don't get it, Barry. You're a millionaire, and you've got all the babes you want! Why aren't you living it up in your palace in Europe?"
"Well...let's just say I...hate crime."

The Firecons were proven innocent and Barricade went on to help investigate a fourth murder scene. This time, Starscream ordered him to gather a crew and raze buildings in the Decepticon ghetto in hopes of getting someone to squeal, but he rejected the order, refusing to turn on his fellow Decepticons, an act that earned him praise from Optimus Prime. The Killing Jar Barricade then helped Prime with his plan to lure out the killer by using the Dinobots as bait, dropping the Autobot team through a trap door to keep them out of danger. Following Cybertron's newfound alliance with Caminus, Barricade got into a relationship with the Camien Swift, and together with Strafe they made plans to transport a truckload of Camien sparks to Alyon where they could grow. Not wanting bigshots like Starscream or Optimus Prime to learn of their plan, Barricade instead approached Slug, whom he'd recently arrested, and offered him pay in exchange for aid from the Dinobots. He didn't trust Slug enough to tell him what the mission was for and thus the Dinobots, who assumed he was entirely corrupt after learning where their pay would be coming from, planned to snitch on him to the Badgeless; he'd likely die and they'd get a briefcase of dirty Shanix anyway! (Slug changed that plan after learning what the real cause was)

The journey was long and hazardous, the travelers being menaced by Badgeless, Sweeps, and mutated turbofoxes, but Slug always urged the others to keep moving, eventually causing Barricade to realize he knew what the secret shipment really was. Moved by Slug's unexpected compassion, he promised to carry on... only to be cut down by Bludgeon, who sought to destroy the sparks. As he lay bisected, he apologized to Swift for his failure before Bludgeon ignited the truck's fuel, destroying both Barricade and the sparks.

To everyone's surprise, Alyon already had a field of sparks forming naturally and by inadvertently bringing everyone over to stop Bludgeon desecrating it, Barricade had succeeded. Slug was pretty sure Barricade would have been glad to die for that. Afterwards, Slug told Swift that when the Badgeless came back, she should tell them that they'd kidnapped her and Barricade and that the cop had "died protecting Cybertron". Redemption

Swift would later join the Decepticons on the strength of Barricade's rose-tinted explanations of the cause. New Worlds Order This would not last however, as she soon learned Barricade's attitude was far from the norm for a modern Decepticon. The Falling, Chapter 6: Unforgivable

It's 2007 all over again.

Barricade was a member of Cybertron's Security Operations; in the days that followed Brainstorm's murder, Barricade and Sideswipe were tasked with tracking possible members of The Rise. The World In Your Eyes Part Three Barricade resented being called away from this task to provide additional security at a forging ceremony at the Forge Pyramid in Iacon, and encountered Bumblebee breaking up a scuffle. When Bumblebee's ward Rubble offered his assistance in regards to the Brainstorm investigation, an irritated Prowl told the two to leave. Barricade demeaned them after they departed, but Prowl told his colleague to cut the pair some slack. The World In Your Eyes Part Four

Prowl, however, was not aware that Barricade himself had ties to the controversial Ascenticon faction. When Prowl and his subordinates began combing the Iaconian underworld for news regarding a Voin who had, apparently witnessed Brainstorm's murder and possessed incriminating information on Brainstorm's killer, it was Barricade who first learned of the Voin's whereabouts from the black market dealer Headlock. The Cracks Beneath Your Feet Part Three In short order, Barricade passed this knowledge along to the Ascenticon Soundwave, who, in turn, got in touch with Shockwave, clandestine leader of The Rise, to eliminate this loose end. The Cracks Beneath Your Feet Part Five However, the operation quickly went south, as Shockwave's hitman, the notoriously unstable Quake, not only killed the Voin, but also Rubble. The World In Your Eyes Part Five Realizing that he would soon be found out, Barricade abandoned Security Operations in favor of a new life in the Ascenticon Guard. The undercover Bumblebee was shocked to see him being recruited with none of the troubles he had gone through to get in. Barricade shrugged this off as simply having more desirable qualities to the Guard than Bumblebee did. The Cracks Beneath Your Feet Part Three When Prowl figured out that Barricade had double-crossed him, the Ascenticon Guard and Security Operations engaged in a standoff outside of Ascenticon Headquarters—a standoff that lasted until Shockwave was able to orchestrate a phony "attack" that ended with Barricade being "kidnapped" by Sixshot and safely extricated. When reporting in to Orion Pax and Chromia, Bumblebee learned that Barricade was partially responsible for Rubble's murder, infuriating him. After Barricade had relocated to one of The Rise's secret bunkers, Flamewar played a prank on him by directing him to the wrong personal quarters. He ended up entering Shadow Striker's room and was promptly and forcefully ejected by her, much to Flamewar's amusement. The Change In Your Nature Part Three

After the rise of the Decepticons, Bumblebee agreed to work for Swindle in exchange for a chance to kill Barricade in revenge for Rubble's murder. Hunt Barricade oversaw Elita-1's transfer from prison to the Senate building after she had been ousted as commander of the former Ascenticon Guard. Bumblebee interrupted the move in an attempt to spring Elita, and with the help of Charger and Fire Beast, quickly had a fearful Barricade on the ground at gunpoint. Not expecting to encounter Barricade during this outing, Bumblebee considered killing him, but ultimately decided it would just land him in deeper trouble. Barricade was among the Decepticons poised to attack Crystal City, and still hadn't gotten a replacement hand yet. A Dust of Crystals Barricade took part in the attack on Darkmount and helped his fellow Decepticons bring Computron down with a concentrated barrage of firepower. Fate of Cybertron

With Cybertron's fate sealed and the Autobots gone, the Decepticons followed them closely through space aboard the Nemesis in pursuit of the Allspark. Earthrise webpage^[2] In the midst of their mission, Megatron discovered that Nemesis crewmember Counterpunch was actually an Autobot double agent named Punch. Once his identity was discovered, Punch escaped the Nemesis in an escape pod and made his way to the nearby Disaster Planet, Dominus. Megatron, in retaliation, sent Barricade to hunt him down. When Barricade arrived on the planet, his search became troublesome, as he was faced with the planet's disastrous weather conditions. Encounter 4: Dominus Criminal Pursuit

Closer than ever to reaching the Allspark, the Decepticons awakened after crash-landing on pre-Ice Age Earth. While battling the Autobots, both sides were joined by the Maximals and Predacons, their epic battle changing their combined destinies.

During this period, Barricade trans-scanned into a police car. His speed and punisher cannon were his powers and weapons, and his core traits were his ruthlessness, single-mindedness, and brashness. Barricade was among Megatron's troops who met with a mysterious visitor, barely missing a shot aimed at said visitor. He later took the blame after assuming command of Impactor's unit for getting Impactor (seemingly) killed. Siege episode 2 Barricade later entertained Starscream's disgust about Shockwave's proposal to reformat Autobots into DecepticonsSiege episode 3 and stomached Starscream's promotion acceptance speech Siege episode 3.

Barricade joined the Decepticon assault on the Ark. Megatron learned that Optimus Prime had the Allspark and set out after him with Barricade as company. He was later part of the assault team Megatron assembled to stop Optimus Prime and Hound from delivering the AllSpark, though both Autobots were able to vesper the blockade. Siege episode 6 Barricade was present at the arena where Shockwave had been harvesting sparks for Project Nemesis, and assisted by forcing Shamble to undergo the fatal harvest. Earthrise episode 1 Barricade helped imprison the Autobots in tubes for harvesting, though they later escaped. Barricade eventually joined the crew of the Nemesis under Megatron's leadership. Barricade was charged with control over the Nemesis's weapons when the ship arrived at Nebulon space station, tracking the Fool's Fortune to the Ark. Megatron ordered Barricade not to fire, instead opting to board the station to kill Prime himself. Earthrise episode 3 Barricade remained on board the Nemesis while Megatron entered the station. When ordered by Starscream to fire on the station, Barricade protested because Megatron was still on board. Starscream claimed Megatron was dead and gave him the order to fire. As he argued that such an action would blow up the space bridge, Barricade was flung aside by Starscream, who took matters into his own hands and fired on the station, unintentionally opening a rift to the Dead Universe. The blast caused by destroying the station knocked Barricade unconscious. He recovered in time to inform Megatron that the Ark was drawn into the rift. Megatron immediately ordered him to take the Nemesis in after it. Barricade obeyed, bringing the ship into the Dead Universe. However, the process rendered him unconscious once more. After the Nemesis crashed onto Earth, Barricade accompanied Megatron outside to check a perimeter breach reported by Soundwave, where they encountered the Predacons, one of which identifying himself as Megatron, and carried the Golden Disk. Kingdom episode 1 Listening to the contents of the Golden Disk, Megatron knew the Autobots would breach the Nemesis, and staged an ambush led by Predacon Megatron and Barricade. Megatron ordered the Decepticons to execute the lined-up Autobots and Maximals, though Barricade argued back, refusing to take orders from Predacons. As Predacon Megatron made an example by biting a Seeker into pieces, Barricade quickly ordered the others to fire, though the altercation allowed the Autobots and Maximals to escape. Predacon Megatron and the Decepticons followed and gained the upper hand, though Barricade was shot down by the recently arrived Optimus Prime. Kingdom episode 2

Possibly dying from Optimus Prime's blast, when the Allspark was returned to the Temple of the Allspark on Cybertron by Bumblebee, Barricade (or another bot) was among the Transformer spirits who witnessed Elita-1 strike down Galvatron and Nemesis Prime before finally reuniting with the Allspark. Transformers: Earth Wars

"Never say die. Or rather, do! Yeee-hah!"

Barricade arrived at the cinema in response before Optimus and Megatron could exchange blows. Roaring into transformation, he taunted Drift saying if he felt lucky bringing knives to a shootout, and this fight will be his fade to black. He also called him "granolabot". Direct the Dialogue week 2

Barricade was waiting restlessly in the Decepticon base when Shockwave summoned him to the Space Bridge Hub for a dangerous secret mission. Starscream wished him luck, which Onslaught explained that he meant he expected him to fail. Barricade replied that those that underestimate him will end up as roadkill.

A bot with a reckless full-tilt approach is who Shockwave needed to send through the multiverse to find new recruits. Taking steps to ensure that Barricade fails, Starscream sent Hun-Gurrr after him. Event Horizon

Both Drift and Barricade arrive in an alternate universe with ceaseless fighting, and Barricade immediately fell in love with it. When Barricade confronted Drift, he gave fighting talk before engaging him head-on. Outlaws

Barricade considered sticking around and partying after tagging someone with his cross-dimensional beacon. But he suddenly felt an inferiority complex when the warzone's gigantic military ordnance started aiming and shooting at him and Drift. He managed to bag a Lockdown, but nothing happened. Just then Barricade was tackled by Hun-Gurrr, and he activated his dimensional jump key and transported them both to another universe. Critical Mass

In a new, garish universe, Barricade deduced Hun-Gurrr's true intentions and subsequently convinced Hun-Gurrr to team up. Dismissing the current universe due to its colors giving him a headache, Barricade and Hun-Gurrr departed once more. Arriving in another universe, the duo witnessed the local Megatron and concluded that they had found an ideal candidate. Worlds Collide

Part of the fourth wave of Siege Deluxe Class figures, Barricade is a new-head retool of Prowl, transforming into a Cybertronian police car. He has multiple 5 mm post holes to accommodate C.O.M.B.A.T. System accessories and parts. He also features multiple hardpoints to accommodate "Fire Blasts" from the Battle Masters assortment, which can be used to simulate blaster fire or explosions. His two "HF Siren-Blast Punisher Cannons" can be mounted on these points, or the slots on his hood/shoulders, as well as combine into a larger double-barreled blaster. He also includes a light bar that can be mounted on his roof or wherever else you care to. The bar has an indent in its top that, despite being rectangular, still fits 5 mm posts very well.

Initial stock renders depict his forearms, upper waist, and shins being painted black, but presumably due to budget constraints, the final product does not have that deco. TakaraTomy stock photography featured Barricade with "To punish and enslave" in Autobot script under "Police", but was removed from the final product.

Barricade's instructions do not mention the light bar accessory.

Barricade is the only one of the figures using this mold and its retools to have any 'battle damage' paint; his is limited to his front fenders. His car doors read "Police" in Autobot script, identical to his moldmate Prowl.

He was redecoed into Generations Selects Smokescreen and War for Cybertron Trilogy Sparkless Bot. The original version of the mold was also used to make Siege Bluestreak.

According to Smokescreen's Hasbro Pulse page, Barricade is a Praxien character to add to the "Praxus-native collection", along with the aforementioned Smokescreen and Prowl.^[5]

Released as part of the "Dominus Criminal Pursuit" 2-pack, this Barricade is a redeco of Smokescreen with Prowl's lightbar. Transforming into a car none-too-dissimilar from a Datsun, Barricade shares much of his transformation scheme engineering with his Siege mold but uses completely new parts. Barricade comes with a single blaster and two shoulder cannon accessories.

Unfortunately, like with Smokescreen, Barricade tends to suffer from quality control issues such as a fragile transparent plastic roof, doors that refuse to peg in for vehicle mode, and molding flash inside the left shoulder port, preventing his shoulder cannons from fully settling inside it.

Barricade was paired in a set with Punch/Counterpunch.

This two-pack was released as an Amazon exclusive in the United States initially, but appeared on Hasbro Pulse on March 5th. This figure was also available at general retail in Hasbro's Asian markets such as Singapore. In Japan, the two-pack was released as a TakaraTomy Mall exclusive.

Authentics

• Barricade (Bravo, 2021)

Released in the fourth wave of "Bravo" figures from the Authentics toyline, Barricade is a roughly Scout-sized figure that changes from police car to robot. This figure is the first transforming toy of the character to use his The Last Knight-inspired evergreen design. The figure is delightfully poseable, with over 11 points of articulation. His fists can accommodate 3mm post accessories and weapons.

This figure first showed up in Chile without any prior announcement from Hasbro.

Bouncing Ball Heads

• Barricade (2017)

"Bouncing Ball Head" Barricade is a small, super deformed figurine based on his evergreen design with a removable head that doubles as a bouncy ball. A Decepticon logo is tampographed on the back of his head and his name is written under his feet.

He is (apparently) available in both gacha-style machines and in an 8-pack with the whole collection, and comes inside a spherical capsule with a unique white color.

Despite clearly representing Generation 1 characters, the collection is advertised as a 2015 Robots in Disguise product.

Sergeant Barricade, Infantry-Enforcer is one of 52 character cards released in Wave 4 of the Transformers Trading Card Game, War for Cybertron: Siege II.

The card's artwork is based on the Siege Barricade toy, with the Bot Mode art being reused from the toy's packaging art, and with original Alt Mode artwork (lines by Sara Pitre-Durocher and colors by María Ana Paolo).

Figural Bag Clip

• Barricade (2020)

Released by Monogram, this 2.5" 3D foam bag clip takes the form of a chibi evergreen Barricade.

It was available only as part of a mystery blind bag collection and was one of two "chase" figures.

Notes

• Barricade's evergreen design, used as the basis for his Earth Wars appearance, is based on movie series Barricade's design from Transformers: The Last Knight. Also, he has a little cap (like another Barricade), which is adorable.
• The 2005-2018 IDW comics version of Barricade uses the design of War for Cybertron Barricade... who, while partially based on the movie Decepticon, also draws heavily on the Generation 1 Decepticon Micromaster. Which page the IDW Decepticon belongs on is iffy, but this wiki has decided that the police function wins out as a criterion to go on this separate page.
• The robot mode of the War for Cybertron Trilogy toys is based on Guido Guidi's Generation 1 Smokescreen-styled iteration of the live-action film character,^[6] which Guidi contributed for Hasbro's Siege concept art process.^[4]
