circuit at Taieri on 07 February 1941 while being operated by No.1
EFTS.
In the subsequent landing on top of a hedge, Flying Officer
L. Poore and LAC P. Stewart were injured.
The accident was caused
by the low setting sun being in the eyes of both pilots.

The aircraft entered a spin which could not be controlled.
The
instructor managed to bale out but the pupil was unable to do so
in time.
LAC Bryan Lambourne killed, Pilot Officer K. Blair baled
out and was unhurt.
The accident was caused by faulty workmanship
on the tie rod that held the wing attachments to the fuselage.

discovered by a party of trampers a few hours later.
The remains
of the aircraft were rediscovered by a deer culler in March 1963.
The airframe was reported to be relatively undamaged although most
of the fabric had rotted away over the years.

The aircraft had actually been flying for some months
prior to this and had crashed at Alexandra on 28 January 1956
after hitting high tension wires on take off and cartwheeling into
the ground. Bush Aviation's final operation was flown by Ron Bush
in this aircraft on 17 December 1959.
Officially the aircraft was
transferred to Hewett Aviation the new owners of the firm but
because of it's condition they showed little interest in it and it
was cancelled from the register on 04 July 1960.
The parts were
given to a Mr. H. Richardson of Mandeville who already had a large
collection of Tiger Moth Parts.
The fuselage was used by him as
the basis for the construction of a non airworthy aircraft.
The
aircraft was at the Yaldhurst Transport Museum in the late 1970s
and early 1980s and is now displayed at the Gore Air Force Museum. |
