John James Pomeroy, 5th Viscount Harberton was born on 29 September 1790.2 He was the son of John Pomeroy, 4th Viscount Harberton and Esther Spencer.3 He married Caroline Robinson, daughter of Venerable Sir John Robinson, 1st Bt. and Mary Anne Spencer, on 1 March 1822.2 He died on 5 October 1862 at age 72.1
