     James Butler, 13th/23rd Baron Dunboyne was born on 25 July 1780.2 He was the son of James Butler and Bridget Sheehy.2 He married, firstly, Ellen O'Connell, daughter of David O'Connell, on 17 August 1799.2 He married, secondly, Mary Anne Vincent Vaughan on 19 December 1843.2 He died on 6 July 1850 at age 69.2
     He succeeded as the 13th Baron Dunboyne, co. Meath [I., 1541] on 7 May 1800.2 He succeeded as the 23rd Baron Dunboyne [I., 1324] on 7 May 1800.1

     Ellen O'Connell was the daughter of David O'Connell.1 She married James Butler, 13th/23rd Baron Dunboyne, son of James Butler and Bridget Sheehy, on 17 August 1799.1 She died on 15 March 1817.1
     Her married name became Butler. After her marriage, Ellen O'Connell was styled as Baroness Dunboyne on 7 May 1800.

He married, firstly, Eleanor Mary Webb, daughter of Henry Barlow Webb, in 1907 at St. George Hanover Square, London, EnglandG.3 He married, secondly, Islay Mary Cecil Moreton Macdonald, daughter of Lt.-Col. Augustus Henry Moreton Macdonald and Anna Harriet Mary Sutton, on 27 October 1921.4 He died on 18 November 1965 at age 87.2
     He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in the Royal Artillery.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.)5 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.)5 He was appointed Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.)1 He lived at North Wells, Bembridge, Isle of Wight, EnglandG.1
