Robert Alexander Palmer, 1st Baron Rusholme was born on 29 November 1890.1 He was the son of William Palmer and Elizabeth Green.1 He died on 18 August 1977 at age 86.2
He was educated at St. Mary's School, Ashton-on-Mersey, Cheshire, England.1 He was with the Co-operative Union Ltd in 1909.1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918, in Egypt, France and Belgium.1 He was General Secretary of the Co-operative Union Ltd in 1929.1 He was President of the Internation Co-operative Alliance between 1939 and 1948.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He was created 1st Baron Rusholme, of Rusholme,in the City of Manchester [U.K.] on 1 December 1945.1 He was member of the British Transport Commission between 1947 and 1959.1 On his death his barony became extinct.2
